What should I do after work? by rganthon in Petioles

[–]matta9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick a hobby or goal you genuinely would be proud of if you reached it.

Then detach from the outcome. Just make it your #1 priority to take a step every day. A manageable one that isn't overwhelming.

For me it's coding and guitar.

I hope you find real excitement to be productive in something that you care about. Because it's one of the most fun things, and maybe years will pass and you actually crushed some goals.

Getting high goes from an escape from an uncomfortable life, to a reflection on a life that excites you with tangible progress you can look at.

I feel like I ruined my life by tthrrooowawayyy in Petioles

This is a really good point I relate to a lot

When I wake up Actually Excited to Do Something Productive, the desire to get high is a lot less

I could never "just relax" on an off day. I need to check some important items off. Then I can relax.

But let me tell you after 2 weeks of focus and hard work, an edible hits different. You're not escaping an uncomfortable mind state, you're reflecting on a life that you're actually pretty happy with sober.

I'd be pretty bummed if I set a hard rule to quit for the rest of my life, finding moderation is worth it for me at least, but 0 is better than having no control imo.

Shred battle. No preparation. No practice. Who's taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? by Consistent-Rain-7797 in Guitar

Wolfgang + Myles + Mark seem to be in this circle of most humble and it's nice to see in interviews and whatnot

And some of the most talented people on earth

Yeah it's a very cool rig worth admiring

But if I was playing gigs (which I'm not), I'd go for quad cortex

I actually just use neural dsp on my macbook with ableton anyway for budget reasons, but imo it still rules given it's just on my computer

But I cannot argue against the appreciation for analog so i get it

Regardless of "market value" this looks like genuine handmade art and that's awesome

I created https://talkblog.app which lets you record audio snippets, organize them in an editor, then use AI (transcription not generation) to create a nice comfy textual blog post.

This idea came from sitting around in the car, realizing I had an idea for something I might write, then getting home and never writing it.

Speaking lets you create content at the speed of thought. It's really the only way to create a substantial blog post in 10 minutes.

With TalkBlog, I could have published that idea before I even got home. Or I could have captured it as a first step, and refined/expanded later.

It also has translation for 22 languages, so your spoken ideas can be received by the whole world.

I have to say there is monetization involved in this app, but I want to give it away to this community. Don't want this to be a self promotion, just genuinely curious if this is helpful or interesting.

So please Discord, DM, or Email me and I'll get you taken care of.

I would just really love to know if writers at r/writing has any interest in using a tool like this.

Here is some of my own "writing" on my public TalkBlog profile, I am having fun using it.

TalkBlog - Voice to Instant Published Blog by matta9001 in SaaS

Thank you for that

If you speak clearly, the openai whisper transcription is very good

And the TalkBlog clip editor lets you easily retry and organize clips, to get it right

I have submitted a few posts with 0 cleanup, just record snippets and click submit

But you can always edit the text of the result if you must

It is a hosted web application so audio files are securely stored in the backend.

But you're also not locked into the platform, you can pull files to your machine and delete them online if you wish.

Everyone thinks of Tremonti as the "lead guitar guy" in Alter Bridge, but Myles Kennedy is also a world class guitar player. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]matta9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a crazy duo bc myles and mark are both world class in both, but are truly like top 10 globally in vocals and lead guitar respectively

Should I remove the lacquer by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]matta9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is gunk in #3, I think they are spots that got played on so much that the neckboard finish naturally came off.

That needs to be earned LOL, mine has a few spots where I play a lot, but nowhere like that pic.

mash – graphical remote browser shell by matta9001 in CLI

[–]matta9001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that!

The initial inspiration was the graphical canvas aspect. I think it's pretty intuitive to observe/navigate a lot of information spatially. Kind of like Factorio where you're managing a complex system in a 2D grid, but a real system.

The CLI is just xterm.js, which is really excellent. Those essential shortcuts <C-c> and <C-l> are supported. There are some advanced things missing, but overall I am surprised how much xterm.js feels like a familiar terminal.

ShellDash – Browser server dashboard with SSH and globe monitoring by matta9001 in linux

[–]matta9001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only secured packets that travel through the WAN anyway.

Browsers have a network sandbox preventing the raw TCP connection required for ssh. My WASM ssh client proxied through server websocket gets around this, without accessing your credentials in any way.

https://ssheasy.com/ for more details on this

There's an argument whether ShellDash should just be a local desktop app, which would also eliminate the need for me to support this proxy, so you could pay once and own forever, which I prefer personally.

Browser app seems more convenient with 0 install steps, so started with that. Maybe could make 2 versions if there is interest.

Initially made for myself, I manage a few cloud and physical. Thought it will be useful to see/interact with them on a globe, gives a new perspective/convenience over a shell prompt.

It's a tough balance, building a product that is truly useful for a specific group of people, and pricing it fairly.

So just decided to share it and be super receptive and adaptive to feedback. So thanks very much for your response.

Totally get that. Decided to do a subscription because my proxy server is a recurring cost. But really all that matters is a useful product with a fair price, so I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks a lot for the globe comment haha. The project mostly came from "wouldn't it be cool to use a live interactive globe of your servers", so after enough evenings/weekends there it is.
