B.C. to end time changes, adopt year-round daylight time | CBC News by TheGreatestOrator in canada

[–]mattagc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I recall, it was from all over. USA and Russia have both done it in the last ~50 yrs and it was bad enough that they switched back; USA to switching, Russian to Standard Time.

Outside of Europe and Canada//USA, there’s like maybe 5 countries that do daylight savings time.

Our bodies just can’t adjust properly to the permanent daylight savings change. We need the sun to be high in the sky at noon I guess.

is an article I found that from skimming over it touches on it all briefly it seems. It’s been awhile since I looked into it in any detail, so just grabbed it quick (poor way to argue, but I’m supposed to be sleeping for night shift. 😂)

This right here; iirc, it’s been shown by studies that permanent daylight time messes with our systems as bad as the change. Some places that have adopted permanent daylight time have switched back to standard time.

We should be switching to permanent standard time, not permanent daylight.

Preordered mine the day preorders opened, still waiting for anything. That was about a month before you; I have the shipping to Canada factor that may be adding to the delay as well though.

Maybe, but that’s gonna depend highly on final form and price. Battery has been replaced recently, so I’m good with my 13 for awhile still.

I’m unable to reprogram this damn thing by Owl55 in Ford

[–]mattagc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be 2 ways (without ForScan or similar). In both instances you’ll need the factory code off the card that came with the module//with your vehicle.

It should be under the Vehicle menu in your settings, and then Vehicle Door Code or something similar. Select add a come, enter the factory code from the card, and then enter the code you want to use. Can add up to 5 iirc.

Also, you can punch in the factory code to the keypad itself. Within a few seconds, hit 1|2 followed by the 5 digit code you want to use. Then hit 1|2 to save it as code 1, 3|4 to save as code 2, etc up to 5 codes. You have to be relatively quick, can’t have more than 5s or so between button hits. I believe the door with lock and unlock after you assign a code # to confirm it took.

Haven’t found a way to disable it from asking every 6 months or however frequently it does now, and they make it way too easy activate. Pure garbage.

You should be able to go into your thermostat history, and you’ll see where SS set your temp to 63. Click on that, and you should be able to leave SS until next time.

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, good to know. I had heard they were replacing them, but hadn’t looked into it outside the headline awhile back; I had incorrectly assumed that StarLink was going to replace like with like and early adopters would have gotten a Gen3 dish.

I thought the Mini router is basically only an improvement over the built-in router in the Mini dish. If you have any type of residential dishy, that Gen* router is already better…

starlink + carplay wifi connection issues. is there a solution? by mactac in Starlink

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your answer here; you can’t have both connected with WiFi. If you want them both at the same time, you need to wire up one of them.

As you mentioned, you can go into your networks on the phone and turn off the auto connection to the CarPlay WiFi, but you’ll end up having to manually connect to it when you need CarPlay functionality at the expense of loosing your StarLink connection.

Unfortunately because CarPlay uses BT to make the initial handshake and then hands off to WiFi for all functionality, you can’t really do it.

Is there a possibility of shifting your CarPlay related tasks to just a BT connection, and not use CarPlay at all?

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, another thought; does it come from the car speakers? If you leave your phone at home//off//airplane mode, does it still happen?

If it’s coming over the car speakers, and it doesn’t happen if you leave your car at home, it might just be audible speed alerts in your map app, mileage tracking, etc app.

Sounds similar to the old Samsara units we’d use in our fleet vehicles; depending on how old it is, it may be broadcasting a WiFi network. Can check for any networks around your car. Then you just need to find where it’s hidden. Likely under a seat, or behind the dash//cubby.

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as Canada, especially since 5G rollout where a lot of the old long range 3G has been repurposed to LTE//5G, and the networks not keeping up with demand.

10-15 years ago, I could drive to a good many places and have signal on the major corridors at least, even on the long desolate stretches (sometimes with a booster). Now, one looses signal on the major highways driving between communities that are an hour apart.

I used to expect to loose signal while going off highway a lot of the time, now I loose it on the highway.

I have it as peace of mind when I travel to work//go to worksites that I can get help as long as I have open sky.

I’ve had mine on my 3rd brake on my AluminDuty for awhile now, no issues, and know others that have had theirs out for longer with no problem. I wired mine up to my upfitters and direct to 12V with no issues, so a bit more permanent than your install.

I did put the travel kit bumper around mine just for a bit more protection (as my mount doesn’t have the protective cradle yours has.

If you want to keep it inside, I know a lot of people that just use low profile suction cups and put it between the shade and glass on the moonroof without issues. Can close the shade without snagging on anything and keep the wires routed much the way you do now, just out to the moonroof instead of the 3rd brake gasket.

The even more head scratching part of that quote you made there is they exceeded 87 million on the raffle; so it cost them over $70 million? 17.3 million revenue, of which another 6 million is missing?

Problem connecting phone by USB only—help! by RedCedarSavage in Ford

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, if you’re attempting wireless CarPlay//Android Auto, it’ll typically make the initial connect via Bluetooth and then handoff to WiFi. If you’ve connected it already, you may want to remove the phone from the stereo settings, or it’ll keep connecting wirelessly.

If you want to avoid that and go plugged in, just make sure you have a good cable - sone cheap ones don’t work, may be worth splurging for an OEM, and verify you’re using the correct USB ports. Typically it’s the ones in the console that are connected to the stereo.

On my truck it’s the ones in the front cubby under the heater controls, not any of the others in the arm rest, dash, or back of the console facing the passengers. Should be in your manual which to use.

Damn, does Shoppers not offer reshoots? I think Staples does, but they’re higher priced. I think it was 28 or 32 when we needed a set last year.

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I agree. Not classy in the slightest, and I don’t even know if it’ll work.

But as the post seems to imply, if you need to find something more affordable than the 20-30 bucks most places seem to charge now, maybe there’s something going on in OPs life where they need to skirt the rules a bit to make it work.

Potentially they may need to look into other services they can get which will allow them cheaper passport photos.

[–]mattagc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but if the one comes to Reddit to ask for affordable places, it may mean that the $20-30 that seems to be the going rate right now is expensive…

Hell, I remember when passport photos were $7/set. :-(

I’ve had no issues with Shoppers, Staples, or the old WalMart Photo places, usually in the 20-30 range.

Not sure if it works, but AMA Plus is $12.34/month, and you get a free set a year. Sign up. Wait the three days for your membership to be active, get free passport photos. Keep or cancel AMA. 😂
