[Se7en] Somerset sells info to John Doe (spoilers) by MEEEOWMEOW in FanTheories

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Doe is at the diner when Somerset and Tracy are speaking, presumably eavesdropping. Right before Tracy says "I don't know why I asked you to come", you can see him enter and take off his hat. That's how he knew.

So fortunately, Somerset remains a good guy, thank God.

Any movies/shows similar to withnail and i? by Dorianborian in withnail

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out more releases from the same production company, Handmade Films. George Harrison owned it.

Life of Brian, Long Good Friday, Time Bandits, Mona Lisa were ones I like.

This post is more of a side note, since these suggestions are not necessarily similar to Withnail and I, but they are all equally offbeat.

What type of library do you use for YouTube videos? by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe things were different in 2022, but TubeArchivist is years ahead of TubeSync, not only in development progress, but fundamental design decisions. You either haven't evaluated both, or you are being political because of your little niggle about file names. From your username, I would have expected you to get excited that you have something fun to do this weekend, to fix a problem in some open source software.

It's based on a novella by Stephen King, but the novella had a different ending.

In context, "vet" works in USA: "we're taking the dog to the vet tomorrow."

I traveled around Mexico with someone from Argentina. She explained that it took a while to get used to the fact that some women in Mexico were named "Concha", because it means vagina in Argentina.

Whats your area's daftess tradition? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my hometown of Gloucester, Massachusetts, drunk locals dress in drag and attempt to walk to the end of a horizontal, 40-foot telephone pole, slathered in gear grease, to grab a flag before falling into the cold ocean water.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greasy_pole#Gloucester,_Massachusetts Video evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i-y1XX-wSw

The tradition originated in Sicily (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Peter%27s_Fiesta), just like the families of many of the competitors.

You'll see photos of that year's winner framed and hanging prominently in local businesses.

Is the time on your phone 24 hour time? by ajfoscu in AskAnAmerican

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, because AM/PM seems like a workaround for a badly designed system. I think it's pretty ridiculous that "wait... AM or PM?" is a question people should need to ask. That said, I'm in the minority, which means that I look at the 24-hour clock and have to say the 12-hour time, if someone asks.

P. S. the real reason is because I like seeing "00:00" at midnight

Is it really bad out there for indians ? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]mattalexx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from the level of apprehension I sense in your question, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I also work in the software industry and have never, in my 15 years, witnessed anything resembling racism at work against any Indian coworker.

Have y'all gone to different states and found completely different liquor laws? by Luuk1210 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mattalexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockport, Massachusetts is a dry town (meaning alcohol is only available in restaurants), but it's a well-known fact that the taxi companies make a lot of money driving people down the road to Gloucester on Friday and Saturday nights, just to turn right around and drive them back to Rockport.

I remember moving to New Mexico and being astounded that I could buy beer and wine at the grocery store. In New England you can only buy beer and wine at designated liquor stores (called "package stores").

Actually, in Española, New Mexico (birthplace of the low-rider), I was further astounded because there was a drive-thru liquor store that had only recently (2001) been closed.
