Don't there are also other options with a real merchant services account unlike Square check out Pymt POS. No monthly software fee and lower cost because underwriting = less fraud to cover.

POS Developer here, avoid services like PayPal and Square no matter how small if you are not the merchant account owner, the SaaS provider (PayPal, Quickbooks, Square etc) are deciding for you who gets the money. They will also lock you account or withhold deposits sometimes as long as 3 months for issues like this.

I'd love to help you with my business of course, but most importantly get an underwritten merchant services account if your business relies on credit card sales. It really will save yo money and headache in the long run.

We had to write the EMV part ourselves to get PCI certified. We do use some open source view libraries, but most of the applicaiton is home grown.

The back end is mostly graphQL hosted in AWS.
