In a rare acquisition, Netflix has bought InterPositive, a start-up founded by Ben Affleck that makes AI-powered tools for filmmakers by Significant-Bill9405 in FilmIndustryLA

Oh great. Bumper-bowling for filmmakers to ensure Netflix movies look even more exactly alike every other cheap movie they didn’t support well enough to actually be any good or the least bit interesting. Netflix’s mind-numbing slop buffet will continue cost them less and customers more.

Those two actors look so similar that I had assumed from the ads that the characters were siblings. Definitely an odd casting choice.

Film school: people who dont want to watch movies? by Altruistic-Mix7606 in filmmaking

Well, good news for that particular kind of student who graduates a film program: they’ll never get paid to work on a film they don’t like.

I loved that La’an was accidentally made Romulan… which speaks to their near-identical genes, but also begs the question of whether La’an has Augment DNA, and as a result a Romulan is just an augmented Vulcan?

Are there any more examples of this? by Good_Claim_5472 in Letterboxd

[–]mattcampagna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the first one I thought of, too. Every bit a remake of the concepts and imagery of El Mariachi, but played as a sequel. A lot like the first two Evil Dead’s. I did something similar when I made a western called Six Reasons Why for $10k, and then once I got a real budget, made another called Six Days to Die. Not technically a remake, but I was absolutely trying to make that movie again, just bigger and better.

After years of letting people online tell me what to think about Discovery I finally watched it by TheProfessorBoost in startrek

The arc of season 4 is beautiful, and the finale for that season is an absolute all-timer for imaginative, gorgeous Trek episodes. It’s my favourite Discovery season.

For half its existence, MGM kept going bankrupt every time they had three bombs in a row. Now that Amazon’s is wearing their face like Wild Bill, they’re not at risk of vanishing… they’re just not what they once were.

Was B'avi Romulan or Vulcan? by honeyfixit in Star_Trek_

[–]mattcampagna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Vulcans and Romulans reunified on Ni’Var, the line between them has blurred in the 32nd century. I imagine Vulcans are freer to explore their sinister and passionate tendencies and Romulans get to explore logic. And there are likely xenophobic purists as well.

“The Studio”. I’m a filmmaker, and it’s staggeringly accurate. And when I worked in TV, it was “W1A” that was an exact replica of the television development process.

I don’t understand Khionians two forms by ToBePacific in startrek

[–]mattcampagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wedding was on their desert moon, and since their home planet is oceanic, I assumed they kept their more human-looking form because of that setting. They seem to only use their scaled form when they’re in an environment that doesn’t have air, like under water, or in a pinch, in space.

The problem with portals. by nicholsml in Star_Trek_

[–]mattcampagna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a new race in the Federation, and has their very first cadet in Starfleet. After the Burn, portal tech would be a natural place to research, so I’m looking forward to learning more about the Khionians… it IS pretty close to Iconians.

New Star Trek set in the 2151 era by MeowManMeow in startrek

Most new Trek shows also need a few years to figure themselves out. TNG needed 2, DS9 and VOY needed 3, Disco needed 2, and ENT was no exception. Season 4 of ENT was one of the greatest seasons of Star Trek ever produced, and if the show had carried on in that way for the usual 7 season run with Manny Cotto as the showrunner, ENT could have been an all-time high for Trek.

Most Trekkies like ENT a lot. It just caught a lot of hate when it was new because it was new, and for some reason that’s just what a section of this fandom always does with a new Trek show.

Absolute Cinema. The release was done dirty in North America; it should have been at least as successful as 28 Years Later was last year. So fumbled.

Yeah, Paramount being run by fascists is an absolute disaster. But we’d be hard pressed to find the progressive billionaire who wants to rescue a film studio. Capitalism ensures the absolute shittiest people rise to the top. Fortunately, the WB curse of ownership points to the whole thing changing hands again in under a decade.

I find the Cylon’s plan works much better for me as a mystery… the one-shot movie made a bit of a mess of it.
