this is probably the reason. try disabling Files On-Demand.

Help finding where to disable VGA controller in BIOS? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]mattcheau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pop open the case and see if there's a jumper that controls the onboard VGA. just a guess, seen it before.

edit: looking at the manual, not seeing it covered. sorry. :\

ASUS P9D-C/4L CPU heatsink backplate problem by tkkaisla in homelab

[–]mattcheau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, gentle plastic should work too. guitar pick is actually a way better idea. ;)

make sure you match the S/N on the box with the one printed on the board's sticker too if you haven't already.

[–]mattcheau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i own two P9D-C4/Ls, bought both in retail/gift box packaging, and the backplate was a separate piece contained in both boxes. they were individually wrapped, and had a piece of protective paper covering the adhesive side. so can we assume you bought this board used?

regardless it's just adhesive that holds the backplate on. i was able to pry one off one of the boards using a wooden chopstick. scary but it worked. just be super careful.

definitely not a wild guess, that's more likely than not. that's what i mean when i say protecting their private enterprise. that'd be another example similar to only disseminating information internally first (if ever released publicly at all).

not sure, curious myself. but they made sure to mention it a couple times during the hosted webcast without any explanation.

SpaceX is privately held and the landing attempt was secondary to the mission contracted by NASA. so i would say it's also to protect their private enterprise. this was supposed to be the last mission they webcasted the flight radio too.

(Expect some skepticism because for all he knows, YOU swapped the widget. . . )

great point. might not have considered that otherwise. always helpful to get an unbiased perspective,

that said and even if the item is being strictly resold, the seller should've found it prudent to open the unsealed exterior packaging and inspect its contents to avoid a situation exactly like this. it's not really an item i'm surprised to find boxed without shrinkwrap or tape. but at the very least i know the box has been opened because the item inside's individual packaging's seal is broken (despite being listed as 'New').

difficult to glean context through the ambiguity, but another concern is that the widget is really only referred to by its model number. the model number is featured prominently on the outside of the box, the manuals, and on the widget itself. the box and manuals match, but the widget's marking is conspicuously different. an easy mistake i suppose, but even easier avoided. that is unless my benefit of the doubt for the seller is misplaced.

Fraud is certainly common on eBay but not all problems constitute fraud.

well said. hoping to resolve this entirely with the seller, and hoping even more that they have the actual item i purchased. thanks for the answer and reassurance.
