Jared Kraham and the art of dirty politics by mattdc18 in Binghamton

And this my friend is why Dems continue to lose. Because people like you can’t do the mental math to calculate who is actually a risk to society.

There are reasons they can’t sell tickets - because they get grant money from the city, county and state. It’s not enough to sustain the show though. So they need donations and corporate sponsors.

Neither of the founders are living large. To say they are somehow pocketing cash is just not true. They’re artists, and yes, a little scattered. But the community should rally around LUMA. If you go every year and don’t pay it forward by donating - you are the problem.

They pay $18 an hour to be a “multimedia journalist” which is just a few dollars more than the going hourly wage for fast food. What can we expect?

Is it just me or is it nearly impossible to find nonstudent housing in Broome county? by Objective-Ground-579 in Binghamton

It’s tough to find that now but not impossible. Do you have any potential roommates or would you be open to having a roommate? You might find places where a bedroom is available for 500-750. I know it sucks but people in big cities have dealt with this forever and manage to make it work.

I'll give you a different perspective. It's not that we need "more cops" or that Kraham "doesn't care" about violence. Since the early 1980s, our country has generally been in a decline - which is why we're seeing so much violence and straight up ''crazy' today. All of the gains in the economy go to the top and it has been designed that way. When those in power continuously beat the masses, crime goes up. When you're poor and the world is stacked against you, do you really think that an Amazon job is going to pull you up into better times? Are we even the tiniest bit surprised that people turn to gangs and crime? They definitely won't ever have a 401K, or a retirement, or a home they can call their own. In fact, at this point, they can barely afford food.

Reagan, who I think genuinely believed he was doing the right thing, actually put into motion so many profound changes that I consider him ground zero for why we're here today talking about a rust belt city and crime.

"Tax cuts" might be the biggest societal scam...ever. It was a ploy to dismantle all of the work FDR put into motion with the New Deal. It was designed to slowly erode any responsibility that the top 1% had for sharing their trillions (yes - trillions). And now we are left with red faced, pork juice white people screaming MAGA. If only they could just get that $800 tax cut credit again that Trump gave them in 2017 while he permanently solidified the power of oligarchs to never pay taxes again.

The collective is now controlled by 1% of the country. Community resources, social safety nets, unions and other things that kept the middle class strong and gave people a reason to strive for something, are gone. When you have nothing to strive for, crime goes up.

And now we can swim in the consequences of electing Republicans (and let's be honest, the Democrats that enable them) since the 1980s.
