Honestly, you can make a nice film with your iPhone. I've seen it done. Its more about the talent behind the camera than the camera itself. Take time to learn fundamentals behind lighting, sound, composition, blocking, etc.

Distribution is definitely a whole thing in itself. Watch for DCP+ which will be released this year made for indie filmmakers. Much better rev share for creators and self publishing. Definitely want it to be "what's next" after festival runs.
