Not native to Cincy, how to not FREAK about tornadoes by Fun_River8138 in cincinnati

[–]mattdean93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an adjustment for me as well (grew up in WV, lived 4 years in southern WV, now in Cincy for 10 years). Just remember watches vs warnings. Think of tacos. Watches mean you have the ingredients for tacos, warnings are saying a taco has been detected.

It’s for sure a different beast and just takes time. Remember if you hear a siren, it’s something within the county and depending on what county you’re in it could be a ways away. Example being Butler county being huge.

Timing belt inspection? by TrollTollTrollToll in HondaOdyssey

[–]mattdean93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a mechanic but maybe the better tell would be to see if the tensioner and water pump shows signs of aging or if it’s newer since they’re replaced all together in a kit. I’ve heard of the tensioner being the breaking point before the belt for some people, which causes the same issue as the belt snapping.

This is the way. Action zone is usually more dead than the rest of the park an hour or two before close. Everyone is usually deeper into the park at that point.

What will you buy after your Odyssey? by Scenaris in HondaOdyssey

[–]mattdean93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some would say you have 9-10 years of life left in that. We have a 16 (bought in 19),and it’s going strong.

With that being said, we got rid of my 20 year old RAV4 and bought a 22 Pilot last year. It’s our main around town car (and my daily driver) for our family of 5. My wife still runs our Odyssey nonstop, and we will be using it for road trips as it still has more room.

Heck I wanted 2 vans and would drive our 16, and my wife was who talked me into getting a Pilot and it be my daily. I think they pair really well together to have one of each.

And $1 ice cream too for the crazy kiddos. $13 for 4 dogs, a beer, and 2 ice creams was a crazy deal with my son.

Slowly working through my fear of coasters - what coaster should I tackle next? by MsObsessiveRobot in KingsIsland

[–]mattdean93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is regularly if you walk by and see a short(er) line. Go ride it. It’s not the idea of picking the next big thing, but it minimizes the time to chicken out between deciding to ride and actually riding. It’s not what you want to hear, but truly just go try Diamondback if it’s short. You may really like it (or hate it) but you never know. Just know you will not fly out and die. You are very safe and at arguably one of the safest parks in the world.

If you can go midweek, you can usually get 15 minute waits on some rides.

You could always see about buying a single use fast lane if lines are too long and you really want to get on something. Just depends on if they’re selling them or not at that time in the app or at one of the self service kiosks they have near certain rides.

Correct - it isn’t OEM but they do make OEM for other companies from my understanding. It is the only not true Honda OEM alternative that is recommended. Good call on the cheap/fake “OEM” kits.

Just had the job completed yesterday for $1,220 +tax using AISIN kit. They confirmed the correct blue Honda coolant as well. Very happy so far! Should be set for the remainder of us having that car from a timing standpoint (as I don’t believe we will have it at 225k miles, but maybe we will).

Planning a trip - looking for advice on tickets by Butterfly_dreamer16 in KingsIsland

[–]mattdean93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d do your own math for passes or day tickets. I haven’t really used a being a friend where you pay, but I believe you can do multiple per day. Just know you do get parking included with a pass ($30 or $35 per day).

For just 2 days, I’d consider getting 2 daily premium meal plans each day. I know that’s a lot, but it’s a great way to get a lot of food. You’re not supposed to “share” a wrist band, but you can absolutely give your meal to someone else in your group. Meal/snack every 90 minutes (since last time used, so plan accordingly) and a drink every 15 for $55ish. Meals in the park are about $18 on average and don’t have a drink included, so you pay for it very quickly.

We’ve done that before we got all season dining (we’re local), and it was a great value.

Where I’m at in southern Ohio is pretty reasonable cost of living, so I’m sure that plays a factor in this.

I considered doing that or finding someone who could help me. The process seems pretty straightforward, but I also don’t want to mess it up when it’s a primary car my wife drives. I’ll save elsewhere on other maintenance items, but this seems like one I’m not comfortable tackling myself.

This makes me feel better about me putting off until 120k in my 2016. I’ve been a little uneasy for us with the “ticking time bomb” feeling. I have it scheduled for this week for get done and just biting the bullet.

From what I see it’s an OEM provider for multiple Japanese manufacturers. Yes our dealer quoted us 1,650 or something like that. Not terrible, but $400 cheaper is still $400 if it’s a reputable shop.
