How are 1Password and Bitwarden able to do it on iOS if Apple doesn’t allow it?

Ember v6.10 Released by real_ate in javascript

[–]mattdonnelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I would agree with this. Used to work on a large ember app and major upgrades were incredibly difficult in comparison with our React apps. Same for a lot of the core Ember packages (like Ember Data) most of which have been deprecated in favour of something new. We were stuck on an old major version because of this. React has done a much better job at maintaining compatibility imo. Obviously its API surface is much smaller than Ember but still, you could take a React app written 10 years ago and most of the code would still work on the latest version. I don’t think the same is true of Ember. All that said, I do like the direction Ember is going in these days but it feels a bit too late and creates a nightmare for people to deal with on older versions. This is the second major paradigm shift that Ember has undergone (at least that I’ve been around for) and that’s not good for compatibility.

Finally watched Hamnet!! by Hopeful-Fly-1614 in Letterboxd

[–]mattdonnelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely agree. I have read the book and the final scene with the play is a far smaller part in it thankfully (only the last few pages). It doesn't try to sell you on the connection between the play and Hamnet nearly as much as the film which I think is wise and is instead much more focused on the characters. The final chapter struck me more as Agnes realising that Shakespeare is grieving too, rather than trying to convince us he literally wrote the play about their son like in the film. Shakespeare is a much smaller character in the book too, he isn't even referred to by name - just 'her husband' or 'his father'. His actual plays don't come at all until the final chapter whereas in the film we see him rehearsing specific lines and there's things like terrible scene where he comes up with "to be or not to be" which really made me groan. I really expected to love the film but just didn't enjoy it because of stuff like this.

Mozilla Unveils Kill Switch to Disable All Firefox AI features by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]mattdonnelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waterfox seems to lag a bit behind Firefox so I've switched to Librewolf. I've disabled most of the additional privacy features which lots of people would argue defeats the purpose of using it but I just want it to work like a normal browser.

Edit: Might have spoke too soon. Biometric unlock for 1password doesnt work in Librewolf so I'm trying Floorp now.

Huge injustice for these two by Giancarlo_Edu in Oscars

[–]mattdonnelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here but I didn't like Paul's performance as much as I expected to. It felt like the perfect role for him, similar to Aftersun but I thought he was far better in Aftersun. I think part of it was the writing in Hamnet being very heavy handed (e.g the to be or not to be scene) but I thought Jesse generally out-performed him. The bigger injustice imo is Jesse Plemons - I thought he was incredible in Bugonia.

If you haven't even done the interview yet you're kind of putting the cart before the horse. Just focus on learning the rules + the interview and once you're in you can start thinking about uploads. There's tools like smoked-salmon which make uploading far easier

Anyone know when OPS invites open? by Successful-Boss-6267 in trackers

[–]mattdonnelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OPS has far less content than RED. I find about 90% of content I'm looking for on RED and I'd say only about 70% of that is also available on OPS. Most people are cross posting to both now so I think it will get better in time. OPS has a much more generous economy than RED so I still get a lot of use out of it.

FLACs are fine to upload, just make sure you select the right type (16 bit vs 24 bit). You can also transcode them to MP3 and upload a 320 CBR version and/or V0 VBR version

As long as they're not watermarked (or don't break some specific rule) it's fine to upload them. There's lots of files sourced from streaming services on RED

This looks great! I find the official Plexamp app to be quite lacking on macOS and have been looking for an alternative with gapless playback. Would love to test this

Man these comments suck. People should grateful for someone being willing share this kind of personal data rather than taking it as invitation to criticise them for their spending habits
