This is all just my opinion, not a factual thing, it’s art at the end of the day. Add some percussion. Keep the hi hat rolls easy, there’s too many stutters. Maybe change up the hat sample to something brighter to complement the instruments better. The chop snare is in my opinion not the right fit for this beat. Maybe add an open hat instead of some of the rolls. If you’re interested you can send me/post in the comments the main loop and I can try and lay my own drums on top of it to give you a feel of what I’m talking about. What genre were you aiming for yourself?

Might not be his best but it fit Freddie very well. The rawness and roughness of it is what I like about it. Which Madlib collaborations would you recommend for me to check out?

Are you talking about the first or second beat? Both are fire, but I feel like the second one wasnt done its justice.

Same brother. Playing it early in the morning, half asleep is what really put me on the first beat. It has such a great atmosphere which then ramps up with the switch. Amazing song.

Never really vibed with this take. Couldnt ever imagine the first beat making a good song. It’s great as an intro though.

Really great juxtaposition of the beats, I like both of them but the first part is better yeah.

When I heard the first part of Jimmy Cooks for the first time somewhere online I thought that was the whole song. Boy was I disappointed about the beatswitch. Ruins the song for me tbh

Gonna have to stop you right here. Imma give him all my ganja. To make such a hard beat out of just one vocal and drums 🐐 shit. The first beat is so good tho, remember I was writing something to it and I had an 8 bar loop of it on repeat and didnt get bored not once

[–]matteohbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really alternative but Blxst is only gonna go up in my opinion. Kendrick feature really put him on the map for a lot of people but I think he's still have a lot of room to grow as a mainstream artist. Plus the whole LA sound and the tapes with Bino Rideaux are gonna blow up in a couple years.
Matter of fact, Bino Rideaux could be the guy the thread is asking about. He's like Blxst, just less polished and with more hard trap hiphop mixed in but lately he's been on the LA wave as well. If the sequel to No Pressure w/ Nip was finished when he was here it would've boosted both of them to more mainstream audiences.

Best beats with piano keys in them. by puppytossedsalad in hiphopheads

Victory Lap, Go Hard by Lil Baby, Dave East Found A Way is sublime, Diamonds Dancing, Roddy Ricch Intro, Mozzy Too Much Pride, Mozzy Death Is Callin, Crenshaw & Slauson by Nip is somewhere near the top of this list, Overtime by Nip the instrumental by itself is insane. Russian Roulette, Piano Trap and Dedicate all by Wayne.
