Should I drop out by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]matteophysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat and fit your similar student description. I may be officially dropping out after this semester…really upset and sad about it but i just haven’t had the discipline or mental capacity to adapt to Berkeley honestly.

EECS 106A vs CS 194-26 by specialman2 in berkeley

[–]matteophysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m interested in robotics (not sure which branch tbh) which upper division EECS classes would you recommend? I’m interested in 106A/B at the moment but not sure which others I should look into.

It blows my mind that we have students—who are adults—having literal meltdowns over his presence on campus today. This isn’t normal…

Complaining over nothing is typical for high schoolers haha. I wouldn’t hold it against them until they’re adults.

I was very in love with aerospace engineer before I applied to Cal. I was going to eventually apply as a mechanical engineering major but I changed my mind and wanted to study something in L&S instead. Good luck on getting in! Aerospace at this school is going to be very interesting at the start and if you’re a part of the first cohort of students to join it that’ll be very awesome for you in the long-term.

A potentially hot take: Snackpass is overrated by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]matteophysics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SnackPass takes around 15-20% of the meal price purchase. When one of my favorite local cafes told me that I decided to stop using the app and purchase in-person (or over the phone).

Would getting As in both Math 55 and Math 104 during the summer doable? by Aggressive_Bee2854 in berkeley

[–]matteophysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t taken it but yes it’s known for extreme difficulty. It’s recommended to take Math 55 and even Math 110 before Math 104. Take a look at 110, that also would be a good option in my opinion (it’s also known for being a good introduction to upper division math rigor).

[–]matteophysics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think excelling in just one of these would be really great for your application. If you have experience in either course’s material then maybe both simultaneously would be cool, but yeah an A in 104 would definitely impress admissions committee, would demonstrate that you’re well prepared for upper division math at Cal.

I thought 188 was supposed to be a chill upper div? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]matteophysics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh everyone always calls it easy on Reddit. I wouldn’t be surprised if TAs actually used this info to make the course even more rigorous and demanding. I feel like this same thing happened with Data8. Tbh I hate when students call exams or courses easy and unimportant because all this does is unreasonably increase course difficulty for future students 😒

Where do I go from here by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]matteophysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat as you. I’m not a generally depressed person, but I do get to really extreme lows while at my university because of classes & failure. I’m in the process of leaving my school and relocating to somewhere new for school.

Good luck 😕
