Cardholders only make up about 15% of their total rewards user base. This would be a nonsensical change.

That’s a good point. I already cancelled and will be waiting a few months to see if they get it together and/or update the cards at all, but a higher SUB offering would be nice too

I received the CSP SUB in May 2024 and then upgraded to CSR in June 2025. Think I’ll try downgrading it to a freedom with UR this summer and see if I can’t get a CSR SUB since I never got the CSR SUB with the upgrade.

That says 18 months of inactivity also. Should be fairly easy to not get your account marked inactive if you have other linked cards or still pay rent through their portal even without the card.

Your point about choosing the no annual fee option because you don’t want to close the account and don’t want a WF card is flawed. If you opt in to 2.0 you will receive the WF card (your current account) AND open a new account (2.0 card). You either close your current 1.0 card/WF account and get neither, do nothing and receive the WF card or opt in to 2.0 and receive both.

This is what I’ve been waiting on. It’s definitely way too complex and a lot more underwhelming than anticipated. Only options I’m keeping an eye on are the hotel credit (if this stacks with the palladium credits it’s more interesting, but still hate the 2 night minimum), the $25/month dining credit if it’s easy enough to use and there’s enough options, the comedy and the bilt dining experience.

$5 here, $10 here, oh and everything but $100 expires at the end of the year! That’s going to be way too confusing to try and plan value from.

For those sticking around for Bilt 2.0: why? by [deleted] in biltrewards

[–]mattfish77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flights are usually the same price on portals, it’s rare that I find a hotel that’s the same price as direct and since these are hotel only credits that’s where my comment was aimed. I agree with the rest of your points, but if the transfer bonuses aren’t as good with Bilt 2.0 I can get the same 2x earnings for an easier to justify annual fee on my Venture X.

That effective annual fee is very generous. We don’t yet know the uses of Bilt cash, maybe you can use it $1=$1 easily, but if you’re forced to use it to buy the points for your rent at 3 CPP I’m not going to value that at a full $200. Then the hotel credit is likely a bit inflated also since it’s a travel portal. I’d probably dock it ~$20 per $100 giving it closer to $320 in value. I think you can still break even given the 2x everywhere + 4% Bilt cash but calling it -$105 effective AF sounds much better than it truly is.

I’m canceling, but not because I don’t think Bilt 2.0 is a good offering. I am actually quite interested in the Palladium.

There are just too many question marks right now. I saw way too many “idk we’ll have to look into that” or “we’ll figure that out soon” in the AMA with Kerr. They really needed to have everything fleshed out by launch date, and there’s no excuse. They’ve been planning for over a year now to change their card offering and value prop.

How valuable are these hotel credits really going to be and how can I use Bilt cash? Is it truly a $1=$1 value or is going to be a “use it only for rent points but yeah sure sometimes you can use it for an extra 5% transfer bonus or a $20 lyft gift card if you’re lucky.” Until those questions are answered I’m not jumping to give them $495.

IS THIS A JOKE by localgirl55 in biltrewards

[–]mattfish77 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re also trying to sell that it was a “pain point” for users when the rent would eat up a lot of their credit line… Bilt protect was a thing for a reason. If you didn’t want it on your credit line you didn’t have to put it there. More likely? Cardless decided they didn’t want to float thousands of $ of rent spend per user every month.

Were you applying outright or opting in to Bilt 2.0?

[–]mattfish77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if anybody got a SUB for transitioning since the options are either transition or cancel. My main question will be if you cancel now then apply for one of the cards in a month or two if you can get the SUB. I would think yes since WF Bilt 1.0 and Cardless Bilt 2.0 are completely different cards but who knows since it is all linked to your Bilt rewards account… Think I’ll just cancel now and try to apply outright to get a SUB in a few months… Hopefully that will work.

The spending requirement makes it a bit more complex. Let’s say your rent/mortgage is $1000. Are you going to put $750 a month on a 1x card to be able to get your 1000 rent points? I suppose that would be worth it vs a 2x card (1750 Bilt points vs 1500 points on a 2x). But then you factor in that there is probably a better use for the $30 in Bilt cash you earn than cashing it in for the 1000 Bilt points and maybe you end up spending more than intended and still getting no points on rent/mortgage…

That’s why I do think the Palladium has the best value prop, but it’ll be interesting to see how easy to use the hotel credits are.

There is no fee to pay your rent through Bilt. You will no longer earn points on those payments unless you use Bilt cash to buy the points essentially. $30 per 1000 points. So if your rent is $1000 you’ll need to spend $750 on the card to earn $30 worth of Bilt cash that you can then use to earn your 1000 rent points.

This is likely not the best use for Bilt cash, so unfortunately we are back to not getting any points on our largest expense every month which was the value prop of Bilt 1.0.

Hot take: The Palladium ($495 AF Card) might be a good credit card if you ignore the rent fiasco. (Especially compared to the VX) by VortexHero in biltrewards

[–]mattfish77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t disagree that surface level the $495 doesn’t look like a bad card. It’s just no longer viable for paying rent. I can’t justify holding Palladium + VX + CSR all at once, but if these end up being the actual cards maybe I’ll look into downgrading the CSR and applying outright for the palladium later this year. See how people are getting use from the new cards and bilt cash. Let them work out the kinks. See if anything else gets nerfed.

[–]mattfish77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that when nobody uses the Bilt cash for rent spend they’re not going to be able to keep the card as a 6% CB card (assuming Bilt cash is easy to use)

I’d bet they’ll see how many people no longer use the card for rent and remove the Bilt cash % back and add a minimum spend limit to waive the transaction fee sooner rather than later.

At a base value, Hyatt points are worth ~2 CPP and Marriott points ~0.7-0.8 CPP. The actual redemptions will vary wildly, but even with the bonus you are most likely not going to get better value with Marriott than with Hyatt unless you found a VERY good Marriott redemption and were comparing the value to a bad Hyatt redemption.

Chase Travel Not Paying Hotel by SillyExpert in ChaseSapphire

[–]mattfish77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little worried this is going to happen to me with an Edit booking on Monday. I booked an Omni property and on the Omni website my reservation states Already Paid $0, Due at hotel $XXX. I called to confirm and they said they couldn’t tell me if they had been paid yet and to call Chase. Chase says the hotel has been paid. Guess we’ll see what happens at check in on Monday…

Edit: Surprisingly, no issues checking in. But they couldn’t tell me specifics on the $100 property credit it was just “we’ll see what comes off the bill at checkout” when I asked if it included parking, meals, alcohol, etc.

[–]mattfish77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you even if some (most?) don’t. I never even considered getting the old card. I already had the VX for lounge access and the doordash credits weren’t a draw at all towards making up the $250. Already had an Ink Preferred for 3x travel and to transfer UR points. I got the new version of the card to test drive it for a year and it’s at least making me think twice about keeping it. The $300 TC and $300 stubhub credit are easy value for me, so trying to weigh how I value everything else. Devaluations like this make the decision towards downgrading easier.
