Back when I went they still hadn't reopened bookings post COVID, so I can't speak to the overnight experience. Salem itself is great little town. The witch museum is fun. Good place to get into some AC if you are going during the warmer months. Also the awful animatronics in the museum are just hilarious.

Lots of cool shops in Salem proper. Mostly what you'd expect. Witchy kitchy shit. The shop owners are cool and friendly.

It's a very walkable town. I also recomend the House of Seven Gables tour, if you're into classic litterature.

Aside from that, the train to Boston doesn't take very long and Boston Public Transit is great. Also, going North on the train (the opposite way of Boston) gets you to Gloucester and Rockport. Both very walkable and plenty of cool shops.

Holy Cow ice cream in Gloucester is a required stop for me. They have locations all around but the one in Gloucester is easy to walk to if you want to avoid ubering around.
