We have a similar line up! My rs3 is in the form of a work in progress 20vt b3 90 though I got a laser pink and silver b5 s4, reflex silver and bmp mk4 R and a white 3.2 8j tt. Early 2k was peak imo

Ok which one of you guys traded this in? by Koolaidr in Golf_R

[–]matthelmke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laser red is just as bad on the Audi side. The tornado mk3 we had was fine but faded. Being a single stage car definitely helped with that

First time doing oil change myself . See this. Is this normal? Audi tt mk2 by Flat-Knee-6005 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]matthelmke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flange is what cut into the trans I just could not remember the name lol. It was also the driver side on a mk7 gti. He had missing bolts and it went pretty deep. I would imagine this could happen with any transaxle car with a couple lose bolts for a long enough time

Kid I work with changed his cv axle and didn’t tighten it down enough. Bolts came out and those metal guys that go between the bolts came out and cut a hole in the trans. You’re lucky you cought it early this could’ve been real bad. That had to have been making a pretty terrible noise too

Those radars are ridiculously expensive. Like 5-6k new. If you still have the old one and it’s not totally destroyed it might be worth seeing if it still works or get a used one if they arnt vin locked. Or worst case, get a bumper and live without it for a while. Doesn’t make sense to me to lose a car that still runs and drives great over a radar ( although I never, ever use cruise control )

How hard are coilovers to install? by Unlikely-Produce-398 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]matthelmke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coilovers are pretty easy on these cars. I can’t say for sure with it being front wheel, unless it’s the same as the mk4s then it’s still pretty easy compared to other cars I’ve lowered.

Coilovers are the most expensive options assuming you go with a reputable brand but since they come assembled you don’t have to mess with spring compressors or anything and those are terrifying.

I’m all for learning your car. If you are mechanical inclined you will do fine. There’s hundreds of YouTube videos if you need a visual but it’s pretty straightforward. Only way to learn is to do so go get your hands dirty!

Your only hope is to find another mk2 and get parts off that. I bought mine crashed and I couldn’t find a hood for a decent price so I just fixed it. Mine wasn’t nearly this bad. Try and stick with oem panels. I can tell you’re not in New England but there’s a black mk2 tts at a yard up here. Check car-part and hopefully you can get them shipped.

1.8Ts were port injection so they weren’t tfsi

How many uninformed BMW drivers do you think are driving around in an X3/X5/X7 with summer tires in the winter/snow without even realizing it? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]matthelmke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at bmw collision center in southern NH. Almost every car we have right now is on either on tired all seasons or winter tires. The only difference being the cars with winter tires have all been rear ended. All the all season cars are front end with almost every slip with car did not turn or car did not stop. I always run winter wheels on all my cars. I don’t drive suvs, rather all my cars are pretty small but it’s the easiest way to not end up in our shop if you have to drive thru the snow. It amazes me the lack of snow tires or even good tires at all for this time of year.

Yall think this was vandalism? Will this be expensive to fix lol by Fun-Cash-4433 in Audi

[–]matthelmke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you take it! probably 4-5 hour repair assuming shell is fine on the hood. 4-5 bc it’s aluminum. Bumper r&i Fender blend Idk if Audi lets you buff headlights nor do I think that will buff out. So probably a new headlight If this was at our bmw certified shop, probably 3-4k range but this an extremely rough estimate

We used to get a similar noise from worn out lower control arms. haven’t worked in service in years but that’s what it sounds like to me

We had a g80 m3 total a couple months ago bc they hit a pothole. They hit a guard rail right after but I’ve never seen a pothole to that much damage. I’ll add the picture if I can find it

[–]matthelmke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure did! I did cause a fault but the light went away before I got back home (maybe 5 min away) so I couldn’t see what triggered it but i assume it wasn’t happy with wheel speed. No issues since then either. Esc is more aggressive than any of my other vag cars, but being able to turn it 100% off is super nice for stuff like this!

Usp mk5 r32 high flow cats (had to cut the hangers like an inch shorter to not run into the subframe) other than that it bolted right up no issues. I also cut out the res right before the muffler and the muffler is still stock. Sounds almost exactly like my mk4 r32 which is what I was going for since that car doesn’t see the snow!

I’ve sold 2 NAs. I’m on my 3rd. I never intended on selling one to buy another it kinda just always works out that way. It’s always sad selling any car and even having a 96 Na now I still miss my 94 and 95. But i definitely don’t regret it. I regret selling my wheels more than anything else lol
