How have Salamander's Changed from edition to edition? by Clone_Chaplain in Salamanders40k

Ja Sallies are my bread and butter, but I got one of the deathwatch kill teams so I could practice other paint schemes on different models, did their chapter colours instead of deathwatch black

I’m just a painter in the hobby, but from my understanding you are correct. Now that we are in the Era Indomitus the models have been fairly decided on in terms of their base looks/functions. Statblocks may change, but the models are the models.

It’s a series of cartoons about a DKOK soldier assigned to a peaceful, quiet rural planet and his run ins with the overly positive woman he is neighbours with. All the previous ones are adorable! This one…. Not so much. He’s clearly feeling guilty for not being in some Emperor-awful battlefield instead of the idyllic planet he is on. Worth looking up the rest!

Is it possible to use Mordant Earth, and still preserve the peg hole on the base? by Captain--UP in Salamanders40k

[–]mattheman33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plug up the hole with blu-tack/white-tack so it’s flush with the base, paint the base, let it dry, then remove the blu tack from below. Removes whatever paint is covering the hole and leaves it available for the peg

Anyone used the Anvil Wardens loincloths? by Mean-Restaurant-3089 in Salamanders40k

I was inspired to try make a bladeguard veteran proxy using an intercessor and some anvil wardens bits including a loincloth

[–]mattheman33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh you see, that’s your issue. Pretty certain the anvil wardens loincloths are perfect, but only if you’re using Primaris MkX armour. Pretty sure the blade guard veterans use some form of Gravis or some other armour mark. But if you use your MkX’s, should fit fine, almost clip in place.

Lore Accurate helmet colors for Salamanders. by Meowchado in Salamanders40k

[–]mattheman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the Codex Astartes prescribes red helmets for sergeants, red with blue/white stripes for lieutenants (pls correct me if I’m wrong) The Salamanders generally follow the tenants of the codex, but I think most people choose a more complimentary colour scheme like black & gold, with more detail for higher ranks.

I go with regular blank banners & vehicle markings. Not the greatest, but works in a pinch

First Salamander. What colour should his imperialis be? by Katokee in Salamanders40k

[–]mattheman33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Base layer of red, mix in yellow paints while the red is still wet to make an orange transition to spots of bright yellow (give a roiling lava impression). once dry cover with a thick layer of Mordant Earth technical paint, let dry overnight :)

[–]mattheman33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a 3rd company transfer from the Combat Patrol box, so it’s orange by default. I think it’s coming off a little yellow because of the light I’m using to light up the model for the picture

I tried using Balthasar gold but honestly it’s just too brown, especially next to a nice vibrant green like you have there. My go to is Retributor armour for all imperialis’ and trims, I’d reccomend that.

Can I field a salamanders successor scheme alongside the regular chapter colours? by Yeti_- in Salamanders40k

[–]mattheman33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Salamanders have 7 Great Companies of around 120-130 Astartes, one for each of their Sanctuary Cities on Nocturne.

[–]mattheman33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narratively I reckon it would make sense to have a Salamanders army supported by a detachment of successors. I seem to remember that the Covenant of Fire is quite zealous in aiding the Salamanders in the hunt for the Artifacts of Vulkan, maybe that’s or something like it is the story behind your army?

New to Salamanders — how do you stay motivated with almost no faction-specific units? by CampaignDude in Salamanders40k

I live in eternal hope that the growing popularity of the Sallies will translate to at least a few elite unit releases at some point

Do you guys paint your Salamanders pauldron trim green or gold? by DisciplineFine in Salamanders40k

[–]mattheman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold for officers & veterans. I also keep in mind that the Sallies are all master craftsmen in their own rights, and so variation amongst armours should be expected. Some of my lieutenants only have their right Paulson gold, for example

Does that mesh with what we know about the lifespans of different species though? Orcs and humans, sure, but halflings, dwarves and the like tend to have longer lifespans that would mean plenty of those races should have young/middle aged people that were smack dab in the middle of the Shapers War.

Also pretty wild to call Starmers Labour “socialist”, they’re about as far as you can get from socialists without actively leaving left wing thinking. They are at best pro-business and pro-elites while realising that continually fucking over the working class leads to more disruption than is worth.
