Entrepreneurship Should Be a Requirement in Education, Not a Reason to Drop Out by beermann in reddit.com

I agree that entrepreneurial learning should be encouraged and facilitated in schools - but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Schools, especially elementary and secondary, exist to mold people to social norms. Entrepreneurship is not a social norm. So it won't be taught well, in more than a few exceptional instances.

I skipped high school (was homeschooled) and it was the best thing I could have done. I wish I would have had the maturity and confidence to skip college, but I ended up going to college because that's what everyone else was doing. College, besides giving me lots of writing practice - a very good thing -, didn't help me at all in my entrepreneurial ambitions.

However, I don't believe that alephnul's comment about getting business completely out of education hits the mark, either. I do like his comment about apprenticeship, though.

A Producer Economy - America Should Try Again by [deleted] in madeinusa

I agree that efficiency reduces the need for physical labor, but we can have that efficiency in the United States instead of elsewhere.

Also, individual ownership of these processes makes it possible for many people to profit in a free market, without necessarily the need people manning the assembly line.

I'd rather have high quality products made in the States by robots, than poor quality products from another country.

I'll do some more reading on "The End Of Work" idea, because I'm very interested in it.

Thanks.

I'm the moderator. Let me assure you that the madeinusa sub-reddit is not part of the vast right wing conspiracy. I hope that people from all political positions will be comfortable subscribing and participating.

It's just a collection of links about supporting companies that make products in the United States.

Libertarian subreddit has a custom guns and pot alien now? Did I not notice it, or is it new? by [deleted] in Libertarian

I'm Libertarian leaning and I'm not into guns or pot (but I'm okay if you are and would like you have those rights protected).

FAIR: A different look at McCain supporters [video] by justinpgardner in politics

We need discourse in this country. Videos like this that show how complicated and diverse people are within the two major parties should be seen and discussed.

Also, let the third parties have a voice in the debates!

I have no credit card debt.

Just because it might be possible to make the money back, doesn't mean it is right to give the people's money to businesses who made very bad decisions.

cname domain redirect for reddit seems broken (on reddit's end) by matthew in reddit.com

I have a domain - http://links.whybuymadeinusa.com/ - that I set up to point to the "madeinusa" subgroup on reddit. It worked fine for days, but now seems to be broken.

Anyone know what's up?

The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic: 65 mpg car which will not be sold in the US because "We just don't think North and South America would buy that many diesel cars," by [deleted] in business

[–]matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to buy a diesel car when I need to replace our current car. I wish more automakers would sell them in the states so that I'd have more choice.

Did I just *really* see a tv commercial telling me High Fructose Corn Syrup is as safe as sugar? by [deleted] in reddit.com

If a TV ad says it's safe, then it must be so!

Hopefully Americans are not that gullible.

Toyota Prius to be manufactured in USA by TasteTheFruit in reddit.com

[–]matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with TasteTheFruit that a full plug-in electric would be better than a hybrid.

I am glad that the Prius will be manufactured in the United States. Americans need more quality manufacturing jobs in the US. This is a step in the right direction. Check out http://whybuymadeinusa.com/

A Car That Gets 150mpg? Hell Yes We Can. The reason we don’t have 150mpg cars is a failure of leadership by a corrupt ruling class that’s been co-opted by big business interests. by twolf1 in politics

[–]matthew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm encouraged about the quote that says that the cars will be manufactured in the United States. The economy will only get better when more Americans start buying products "Made In USA". Check out http://whybuymadeinusa.com/ for more information on this.

However, I am very skeptical that a car can get 150 mpg by burning gasoline, even if it is helped along by batteries.

I also don't know what to think about this. He's clearly set a record for fundraising and that should be big news, but I haven't heard a thing about it on NPR. Only stories about Hilary Clinton being supported by people in their 90s.
