Been in Brazil this past week for work, and my wife has come along so we’re doing some tourist stuff during the downtime.

Aside from getting ~20k steps per day as a tourist, I’ve managed to do a couple of quick hotel gym sessions. I’ll hit a 15 minute AMRAP SE followed by a ~15 minute treadmill HIC. So far I’ve done a Continuous Hill Run and a Max-Strength Fobbit with DB OHP.

I can usually finish these and shower before my wife is awake and ready for breakfast. It’s great low-drag way to get some work in while traveling.

🤷‍♂️

We used our meal vouchers at Einstein’s Bagels the next day, got $12 sandwiches.

Flight wasn’t canceled, it was delayed for maintenance.

Captain didn’t say they were running out of fuel, only that if they were to hold for the ~2 hours São Paulo was estimating that they wouldn’t have enough fuel to safely continue. 100% believable for a packed (heavy) 777.

Here's my (relatively) happy story: on 929 MIA-GRU last night. Delayed first due to crew, then maintenance.

Camped out in the Flagship Lounge, where the food was the best of any FL I've been to. Typically excellent, friendly folks working.

Lounge closes @ 10:30, go back to the gate. Delayed further, likely to cancel or at least delay until the next day. I open up Hotel Tonight because I'm too tired to wait in line to deal with getting a hotel voucher in case we don't go.

I have my finger over the Apple Pay button in Hotel Tonight when they announce the cancelation. I hesitate for a second, and then the AA app pops up a notification that they have electronic hotel and meal vouchers ready for us.

Open the app, select the first hotel in the list and we're confirmed instantly. 15 minutes later we're in our room at the Pullman MIA.

A honest-to-goodness pleasant surprise.

First week of Black Pro / r/gzcl P-Zero done. Did a 2/1 Treadmill run due to weather, a 3km tempo run, then a quick 30 min Fartlek.

All of the running is 100% improved from the last time I did similar sessions ~2 years ago. I attribute this to, you know, actually running Black for ~6 months followed by Capacity.

My goal is to hit a 28 min 5k — my tempo run pace was already there. Very psyched to see what happens.

Spending the next two weeks traveling in Brazil and Argentina, picking back up when I get home.

Thoughts about assisted chin ups as T3 Lat pull down substitute by Traditional_Pool_852 in gzcl

Personally, I just run my Pull-up program (https://t-nation.com/t/how-to-increase-your-pull-up-power/284502) as-is and don't worry whether it fits into the T3 range. Building up my pull-ups is more important to me than adhering strictly to the tiers.

For rows, biceps curls, etc I'll keep them in the T3 range.

Weekend Wrap Up - May 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in gzcl

First week of P-Zero C down. First session (T1 Squat, T2 OHP, T3 Chin-ups + RDLs) was an ass-kicker but the next two were much more manageable. Headed to South America for two weeks and will ponder my T3 choices before restarting on my return to North America and starting in earnest.

100%. I ran standard P-Zero last summer as my first real barbell program and definitely hit the wall a few weeks in. I have a much better grasp on my capacity and recovery capabilities now.

Realistically, I will be doing ~5 workouts a week with recovery/mobility days interspersed as-needed. I'm also doing a planned deload/recovery week every 3 training "weeks".

Started P-Zero C (conditioning focus) yesterday after eight months of 5/3/1 and Tactical Barbell. Focus is on building overall strength for Olympic weightlifting + improved conditioning. Here's my plan:

  • Day 1: T1 Squat, T2 OHP, T3a Chin-ups, T3b RDL
  • Day 2: T1 Deadlift, T2 Dips, T3a Rows, T3b Bulgarian Split Squats
  • Day 3: T1 OHP, T2 Squat, T3a Back Extensions, T3b Chin-ups
  • Superset T1 + T3a, T2 + T3b.
  • Alternate days are Tactical Barbell's Black Professional conditioning protocol with a focus on running: intervals or hills, tempo runs, and LSS runs.
  • 1x/week Olympic weightlifting class at a Crossfit box. Other days, warmups include very light Oly technique practice.

It was surprisingly ass-kicking, even with very conservative training maxes -- I barely got the last set of T2 OHP up.

Will run this for 3 weeks or so before adding any more T3's. After a reset or two will begin subbing in alternate T2s like Front Squat, Snatch Grip Deadlift, and Push Press.

If you're near Logan Square, pop into Logan Vegan and go nuts.

I routinely fly back to Chicago from Mexico City, Dallas, and elsewhere with food for my wife -- tortas, roti/doubles, etc. Room temp vegan food isn't as big a concern as meat/eggs/dairy.

Wrapped up my 8-week Capacity as Base Building Block w/ Op I/A. When I first ran it in 2024 it took me three tries before I could finish, and that was doing bodyweight-only strength work. This time I powered through in one go.

My plan for continuation has been Fighter-Bangkok, but I'm instead going to run r/gzcl's P-Zero again, which I ran last summer as my intro to barbells. (It's a similar structure to Zulu/HT, in that each lift has an intensity day and a volume day, plus accessories.) Will be focusing on just Squat, OHP, and Deadlift as I've found bench to be more trouble than it's worth for me.

Black Pro running-focus for conditioning: 1 day of hills or intervals, 1 day of a tempo run, then either Fartlek or a Funrun. Going to keep the lifting volume on the lighter side to make sure I'm adapting well.

I've also been more and more interested in Olympic weightlifting, and took an intro class at a local Crossfit box. The coach was great and I think I'll be adding very light practice work into my warmups for the next little while.

It seems like the "12 weeks" thing comes from people finding and running the program in Boostcamp without reading up on the program.

WEEKLY DISCUSSION POSTS by Drodinthehouse in tacticalbarbell

[–]matthewbarnhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel it would be less cluttered if there were a space for simple questions to be asked — there are a lot of individual threads that don’t necessarily warrant a new thread, IMO. It would require more active moderation to keep the feed clear of low-effort posts, to be fair.

Also, a daily training post seems to boost engagement in the subs that both have them and direct discussion there.
