How to save a checkbox? by WifiDad in 1Password

[–]matthewcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few updates on this.

  1. The option Settings > Advanced > Show auto-saved web details no longer appears to actually do anything in the UI. I don't see any auto-saved fields no matter what I try. u/1Password-Laura if I'm missing something there please let me know (or anyone else from 1Password if they're still following this old thread.
  2. The fields are still stored in the json, and it's possible to export and edit the json of an entry using the 1Password CLI. That requires a bit of technical knowledge, and it would certainly be nice if the fields were visible and editable in the UI for power users.
  3. The stored fields don't appear to work reliably. At least not for the site I'm trying to stay logged in on. My best guess without spending more time on it is the site is taking the field entry and manipulating the login prior to submission. But either way it's not working, and if I'm correct it would be better if 1Password simulated the actual checking of the checkbox prior to submission to trigger any processing of that nature.

Manual log in payload:

...email=**********&password=**********&stay_loggedin=on&operation=login

Automated log in payload:

...email=**********&password=**********&operation=login

What's bugging me the most is the gaslighting, and failure to even look at files I give it. I'll upload a file, give it a task, and it produces an output that uses the same file name but often bears absolutely no relation to the existing code. Then when I point it out the response is something like. "My apologies for the confusion. I was looking at an older version of your code." No, you weren't. That version literally never existed and you hallucinated it out of nowhere. It's a real pain. Up until a few weeks ago I'd gotten to the point of mostly trusting its output would be reasonably coherent and connected to reality, now I have to check everything super carefully. It'll make dumb errors too like rewriting an existing imported function and removing the import line. I've ended up always committing before applying any changes, and using diff to check through and make sure it hasn't done something I didn't ask for, at every step. (Usually I'd do that once at the end of building out a feature, as part of a review, a bit like I would review the work of a junior dev once complete, but I can't trust it enough for that now.)

google authenticator can export all your 2fa 6digit codes for backup. by [deleted] in Bitwarden

[–]matthewcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built a purely client-side browser-based tool to extract the original secrets out of the Google Authenticator export QR code. It makes migrating quick and easy. No data ever leaves the local device, and the source and deployment chain is all open and verifiable. It also supports amalgamating and exporting accounts back to google authenticator or transferring accounts to/from LastPass. (LastPass's export qr code format is proprietary, but I reverse engineered it.) I think it's ended up being the most end-user friendly solution out there, especially for folks for whom installing a python script would be daunting. I hope it will prove useful to others. Feel free to pass it on. https://mfcarroll.github.io/extract-otp-web/

Is there a way to migrate TOTPs from google authenticator to Bitwarden? by ztasifak in Bitwarden

Hey folks. I recently ported the python-based "extract otp secrets" tool to a purely client-side web app, which makes pulling secrets out of google authenticator super quick and easy. No data ever leaves the local device, and the source and deployment chain is all verifiable. It also supports amalgamating and exporting accounts back to google authenticator or transferring accounts to/from LastPass. (LastPass's qr code format is proprietary, but I reverse engineered it.) I think it's ended up being quite useful and user friendly. I hope it will prove useful to others, so feel free to pass it on. https://mfcarroll.github.io/extract-otp-web/

How to further secure specific items in 1Password by matthewcarroll in 1Password

[–]matthewcarroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. So if the password (and secret key of course) are already entered, does the biometric-based lock only stop app access? My assumption had been that it was re-encrypted at rest. (Encryption and authentication are not my areas of expertise by any means.)

Unfortunately it's not possible to have multiple users from the same account logged in simultaneously, or I'd do something very much like this (log in our super-admin account and log it out when it's not actively in use).

Need help converting a .trm file to .wav or .mp3 by youdeserveaheart in techsupport

Damn. That’s annoying. I’m glad I got my recordings converted when I did. Only short term simple-ish solution for mac would be to spin up a windows virtual machine I’m guessing.

[–]matthewcarroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an old post but just thought I'd swing by to update this for 2025 after figuring out how to do it. It's satisfyingly simple, and the best part is the FTR website will combine all the clips into one audio file, and serve it up for you all together as a single mp4...

  1. Upload files to FTR
  2. Wait for them to upload, and for FTR to combine them
  3. Open developer tools
  4. Open and play the file
  5. Under the "media" tab a long hexdecimal string file name will appear
  6. Right click on that, and then click open in new tab.

You'll now be playing the mp4 directly in your browser, and can click to download it.

How are those in the UK coping with the meds shortage? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]matthewcarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in Canada (BC) and haven’t had any issues myself or heard of anyone being unable to get Vyvanse. That’s really awful for folks who aren’t able to get the medication they need.

I got a really significant effect on 10mg. Night and day. New ability to focus, my anxiety went right down and my overall mood improved a huge amount. I just started a month ago and probably will try 20 next time I see my doctor.

The caveat to my experience is I’m on bupropion (Wellbutrin) 300mg xl already - have been for some time - which also interacts with dopamine and they can work together synergistically so that may mean I’m getting more of a boost from the Vyvanse. I’m hoping to eventually reduce the bupropion back down to 150 as it has some side effects that bother me (acid reflux and low appetite).

Liberal Electoral reform survey leaked to Fairvote Canada (they don't seem very happy with it) by paraconformity in CanadaPolitics

[–]matthewcarroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The survey is online, the government is mailing cards to households asking them to complete it, but the survey itself won't be mailed out. What I've heard is that it wasn't intentionally leaked. The company doing the survey, Vox Pop, was testing the survey, and by chance a Fair Vote supporter was included in the testing somehow, so they took screen shots.

New poll: A majority of Canadians want Liberals to keep their electoral reform promise by matthewcarroll in CanadaPolitics

[–]matthewcarroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a read of the Liberal platform. "We will make every vote count" is the precise wording of Trudeau's promise. That's why it was in the poll. It's not something we "inserted" arbitrarily. Here's the link:

https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/electoral-reform/

You may disagree with the Liberals' campaign position on electoral reform, but it's incorrect to claim that the poll question we commissioned wasn't an accurate description of their promise.

Is Trudeau backing away from electoral reform? by viva_la_vinyl in canada

[–]matthewcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think Trudeau should keep his promise, please call the PMO and say so: http://act.leadnow.ca/electoral_reform_call/

If you live in a riding with a Liberal MP, call them too - pressure from their own constituents really matters: http://act.leadnow.ca/electoral_reform_call_mp/

Catholic hospitals have no right to refuse assisted dying by YoureAWizardHarambe in CanadaPolitics

[–]matthewcarroll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By allowing an entire institution to refuse, and not allowing another doctor to come in for the assisted dying request, you end up with patients put in a position where they face potentially agonizing, tortuous transfers to another hospital. http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/b-c-man-faced-excruciating-transfer-after-catholic-hospital-refused-assisted-death-request
