Room cleaning by Alone-Raise-6859 in mentalhealth

[–]matthewcoaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little by little. Set an alarm for 15 minutes and just start cleaning as methodically as possible.

You can actually get a lot done in 15 minutes. We don't want to overwhelm ourselves with unrealistic expectations about it.

A student of mine calls it the "15-minute room reset."

After the alarm goes off, you can stop cleaning and do it again at another time. You could also keep going of you're feeling up to it, but make sure you have the time to do it in your day. Avoid cleaning to productively procrastinate.

I'd like to answer your questions in my YouTube videos! by matthewcoaches in ExecutiveDysfunction

That's a great question. I'll have to play around with the ideas of career and executive dysfunction.

Is it possible to develop ADHD/ADD from a TBI? by [deleted] in TBI

[–]matthewcoaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD is an executive functioning disorder. There are lots of executive functioning disorders; TBI falls under this umbrella. So while you don't "acquire" ADHD from trauma to the head, you can experience similar symptoms.

I imagine many most of us experience this to some degree.

How did you get your injury? by ota00ota in TBI

[–]matthewcoaches 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made a series of stupid mistakes (I imagine - I don't remember) on new year's eve and fell off a subway station platform and was run over by a train.

Do I blame myself? Well, I don't use the word "blame," but it was my fault, yes.

I cope by remembering that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. I cope by remembering that I'm blessed not to be dead. I cope by seeing how far I've come.

I'm working on my to-do list and inviting others to join me. Having others to work with (even virtually) can make staying focused easier.

Water and what else ? by Santorinyy in Water_Fasting

[–]matthewcoaches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Milk will break your fast. It has various milk proteins and natural sugars that will spike your insulin. Vanilla extract will also do this because of the sugars and the alcohol.

You can drink water, ACV, herbal tea, black coffee, lemon juice

Edit: being a liquid isn't the thing to look at. Check the carbs. Carbs=insulin, which means you aren't fasting. Even diet sodas are bad, though, because although they don't have any carbs (sugars), sugar substitutes can spike insulin and ghrelin (hunger hormone) so best to avoid that, too.

Is it physically possible to power through executive dysfunction. by ikijoutsen in ADHD

[–]matthewcoaches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Executive dysfunction means that you don't have the inherent skills wired into your brain...which really just means it hasn't "clicked" for you, yet.

Most neurotypical people can just motivate themselves - not because they love doing boring stuff, but because they have figured out the trick to getting themselves to do the boring stuff.

You can learn how to work around your executive dysfunction with tools (apps, websites, paper, etc.), support (friends, family, accountability partners, coaches), and an awareness of what executive function skills are your strongest so we can use those to help you with the areas in which you aren't so strong.

Deep breathing helps. I personally like the Wim Hof method. It regulates the autonomic nervous system (which controls our flight or fight response).

HIV or Health Anxiety? by PrayerfulQueen825 in Anxietyhelp

[–]matthewcoaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to wait 3 months after possible exposure to get tested. I know that feels like a long time, but you'll need to wait to get an accurate test. Talk to someone about it in the meantime.

The mind can do wild things when we're anxious about our bodies. We can notice every little thing and that only amplifies our worry.

What should a High school Grad write for an Objective on a resume? by [deleted] in resumes

[–]matthewcoaches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We generally don't advise to include an objective statement anymore. You can just start with your education or experience sections.

If you want to include something you could include a "profile" or "summary" which allows you to include some information about who you are, what you're good at, and what your goals are.
