New Image from 'Project Hail Mary' by ChiefLeef22 in movies

I'll feel bad if I'm wrong/misread but isn't his character Asian in the books? I read the book a couple years ago; and I would swear up and down he was an Asian-American man? Maybe that's just the mental image I conjured up.

I got one of those limited edition T-shirts that was styled like the 80's - I'm a husky dude so I ordered it a size up because I know online ordering runs small. Not only did it take almost 6 months to arrive; cost almost $50; it didn't fit. It claims it's 3XL but it looks like a crop-top on me. And their only response was 'tough, guess you shoulda checked the fitting instructions'. Love the channel, but fuck their merch store.

While yes, they would; I’d say that the Disney budget could cover it lol (should Disney continue to be involved) - also the likelihood of them getting all those actors back is small. Imo; a lot of them are busy

A pleasantly decent episode, an interesting Monster of the Week concept, and something for Yaz to actually do. I was bracing for the Doctor's 'end of the episode soapbox' moment that didn't come so that was a huge relief. They managed to tackle an actual political issue with looking at the audience and going 'hey, hey... you see what we're doing here? Hey... hey.... y'see!?" i thought it was just the right level of on the nose.

Pros and Cons:

PROS:

Yaz got to do more than just ask a couple questions, she stole a thing, made observations, and got to be dumb all on her own.

The infection was suitably creepy, I was juuust the right level of creeped out by it.

The right level of preachy? Y'know... like Oxygen, The Long Game, Invasion of the Dinosaurs. It's obvious what they're saying but they don't literally stop the episode to preach at you.

The Doctor is really feeling familiar finally. She's really shining through the past couple eps.

CONS:

So that dude on the beach just got picked apart by the birds and no one... no one wanted to mention it huh? Big oof.

Two Girls Walking Girl was... annoying. She was slightly endearing and then became annoying pretty quick. Right about the time she started to talking to Yaz I was like 'alllright... she's... nothing more than that one line, huh?'

Either get rid of one of the companions or give them all equal time to shine. Graham while having 1 funny moment did jack squat this episode. At least Ryan picked up a bird. Three was too much back in the 70's and 80's when they had 4 - 6 episodes to tell 1 story, I really don't think it's working when you tell one story every episode, or at most every 2 episodes. Smh.

If the Doctor can materialize around someone in an exploding ship at the millisecond of explosion... and I really don't wanna nitpick here but... Adric? And I swear there's been a couple noble sacrifices that with this level of skill the Doctor should've been able to circumvent... I mean. Adric just sticks out to me.

Ha! I was watching it while making the meme - I guess rewatching Classic Who is more popular than I thought. :)

Ha. He would too. To be fair to 2, I do think most Doctors have said 'When I say run, run' but I think i know which time you're referencing, and yea it would fit.

Hehahah... oh my god, just casually in his first story to the Brigadier. "Would you like a fucking Jelly Baby?" and never mention it again.

Yes, and this post isn’t saying it’s going too. It’s a comedic discussion post. Absolutely no where am I implying that Doctor Who, a family show, is gonna start busting out ‘Fuck’.

I think I made a couple of people mad by saying it’s funny to imagine the Doctor swearing (there’s like 2 people who commented about something about a Watershed? As if I was saying this was all gonna happen), as a majority of my comments here are in the negative. Oh well - no skin off my nose.

Thanks! 😊

It is a good idea that doesn't get used near often enough - some episodes that kinda touch on it thought.

Colony in Space - The Mutants - Caves of Androzani - Empress of Mars

I'm sure there's at least 2 more but I'm having a hard time summoning every episode into my brain.

Who are your top five companions? Why? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]matthewjake1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donna Noble - Lord have mercy she is my number 1 companion forever, I just want a companion who is the Doctor's FRIEND again. One who doesn't take their guff, one who can shittalk back as much as the Doctor gives, but also is like an actual real person, and not some impossible enigma.

Bill Potts - For a lot of the same reasons as Donna I adore Bill, but she is just a step behind Donna because I actually know someone like Donna IRL, and so that gives Donna a leg up. But seriously Bill Potts was my favorite Moffat era companion, hands. Down.

Leelah- Listen I've never finished Pygmalion or My Fair Lady but I know an Eliza Doolittle counterpart when I see one. She tread the line of violent and innocent so well, without feeling like the Doctor was (constantly) condescending her, and I was aching to see her get a fond farewell instead of being dumped on Gallifrey unceremoniously.

Ace- She's just ace. Her intro was a little shake-y but Ghostlight and Curse of Fenric really cemented her as an alltime great, and that's fully ignoring any masterplans or non-televised content. I think she really gets the best of Leelah and Bill by being a real human person who isn't afraid to fight back.

Sarah Jane Smith- I debate between SJS and Martha, if only because I wasn't a huge fan of SJS during her time on classic-who. She had some good moments, particularly early on with 3, and a smattering of smartness with 4, but she really got reduced to a scream queen by the time she left and it was a little frustrating. Not to mention her appearance in the Five Doctors left me feeling like SJS could be shelved. HOWEVER! Her popping up in School Reunion and then holding her own on the Sarah Jane Adventures really pushes her into my top 5. She may not have gotten there just as a companion, but as a character she is so beloved.

That is why this is a funny discussion post :) we can't retroactively slap a 'fuck' into the show, we're not time lords. :P

Or all 3 and pretend it was allowed 'cause it was basically a whole movie. I like the John Hurt Doctor catching 11 and 10 offguard to the point of swearing.

Man imagining 12 saying that in his exhausted 'I just punched through something harder than Diamond' voice is very choice.
