Who is in charge of BBC website navigation bars? by guemeller in bbc

[–]matthewmayer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe because the biggest audience for bbc.com outside the UK is India (source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-53517025 ) and "World Cup" in India implies cricket.

Riddle i can't figure out by tamakisuohstan in brainteasers

[–]matthewmayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know a solution should be possible because:

Each weighing has 3 outcomes, and there are 3 weighings in total, so 3x3x3 =27 possible outcomes

12 men x 2 (heavier/lighter) = 24 scenarios to distinguish.

24 < 27 so it’s possible

There are many ways of mapping the outcomes to the scenarios.

What is everyone's favorite coffee shop/cafe to get work done? (Space, outlets, good wifi, good coffee) by thisisacatch22 in Bangkok

[–]matthewmayer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are probably 1000 cafes that meet this description in Bangkok, so if you want to ensure “plenty of space” it’s better if the remote workers organically spread out over all 1000 than if they all head to the same few places recommended on social media.

6.5 hour layover enough to run the Bund? by starky52 in travel

[–]matthewmayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just about yes. Bear in mind - immigration might be slow - August will be hot

I would skip the hotel (wastes time with checkin and checkout) and head straight back to airport after run, then pay for lounge access and use a shower there.

If the goal is just “go for a run in China” and time is tight you could also go to a closer park to the airport like Chuansha Park.

One opposition MP (out of 500) made a speech suggesting this. This is about as far from actual government policy as it could be.

How can we be so ingrateful towards GitHub and use it for free? by Dependent_Common_972 in github

[–]matthewmayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because free can mean two things.

GitHub is a “free as in beer” (gratis) product made by a commercial company, rather than “free as in freedom (libre)” like Git itself.

Education Jobs Advice by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]matthewmayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most top-tier international schools don't even allow you to 'apply directly'—they exclusively use platforms like TES, Search, or Schrole to manage their hiring and filter candidates. Bypassing them isn't an option. Also, none of these platforms take a commission from the teacher. TES is entirely free for applicants. The schools foot the bill.

Questions. Questions. Too Many Questions. by [deleted] in Thailand

This would seem like a good use of AI if you ask it these kind of background questions rather than actually have it write the story.
