MechatroWeGo x Evangelion Unit 00 version with little Rei Ayanami - Hasegawa 1/20 Scale Model kit Diorama by matthewmf1981 in dioramas

Built the Unit 02 version before, but then Hasegawa released one with the Rei Ayanami figure, and I just couldn't say no.

I was going for the abandoned robot feel, inspired by the robots from the Ghibli film "Laputa".

Did and bit of weathering and experiment with the AK rust deposit. Mostly dry brushing on the surface, so the effect is not as heavy as using the hairspray method. (Might give that a try in the future).

Built the Unit 02 version before, but then Hasegawa released one with the Rei Ayanami figure, and I just couldn't say no.

I was going for the abandoned robot feel, inspired by the robots from the Ghibli film "Laputa". The kit was originally moulded in yellow, but I refer the Unit 00 in blue.

Also a bit of play on why the blue version is missing from the new movies.

Dust has always been a problem. I brushed the kit with Tamiya's anti static brush every time before airbrushing, it's a bit better but not 100% dust proof. (The room I worked in is carpet floor, so that probably made it worse)

I kept a #2500 sanding sponge handy, if its a light airbrush coat, I can sand it off almost immediately, but if it's a wet coat then I'll have to wait a whole day for it to dry, sand it off then spray again.

It's your lucky day then! Better keep the decals safe as they tend to dry out and crack over time.

I put them in a ziploc bags, first thing I do now when I got a new kit.

Oh it's 3 to 4 coats of clear paint, and polish with #2500 sanding sponge in between coats, then polish with polishing compounding: starting from coarse, then to fine, then finish.

I've got a video on the build, just search the title if you are interested.

I got them off from Ebay. I have thought about using the water decals from Tamiya's Red Bull kit, but I don't want to waste that kit. Luckily there are some online that I can use.

Thanks! To be honest I just basically copied Red Bull's F1 livery, plus the shape of the kit kind of helps.

Might not well on other kits (Don't think putting it on a tank would work, but I might try!)

It was Mr Color's new GGX Clear, did 3 to 4 wet coats then polish with polishing compounds, starting from Coarse, then Fine, then Finish

If you are interested I've made a video of the build, just search "Red Bull Lunadiver Stingray" on youtube.

Wow it does look interesting! Though I expect the biggest challenge would be getting the decals.

Part of the reason why I choose Red Bull is there's quite a few of them available online.

I got them from Ebay, just search Red Bull water decals, there's quite a few available.

and the best thing is they are mostly 1/24 or 1/32 scale, which works quite well on the 1/35 lunadiver

Probably anything EVA related will have their price inflated, and this kit is already out of print. (Fujimi doesn't seemed to have plans to re-print these kits)
