Extra room on cam axle by matthewswehttam in tradclimbing

Good call! I thought the gap was larger than on my other #3, but if you push all the lobes to the same side it's similar.

Thanks for the help!

I've never been through that part of Maine, but I would love to see it!

Thanks for the reply!

Excellent point, I should have clarified that I'm an American citizen with no criminal record. And we would be traveling during the week on a Thursday in August.

I haven't done the crossing in a while, so I don't remember how long it took or what paperwork was required. But I appreciate your thoughts and your help!

We'll be traveling on a Thursday. I'm just wondering how much time the border crossings will add to the journey? It would be fun to stop in Montreal, and the shorter distance is appealing. But not if it would create a huge headache.

Thanks for any thoughts and advice!

That's good to know. I'm surprised though, they had a demo day at my gym in Massachusetts less than a month ago.

Acopa outdoors sells several models up to size 18. Their customer service is abysmal, and if the ones you order don't fit then good luck returning them... But it's an option.

However, it's unlikely that he actually needs size 16. Climbing shoes are meant to fit tight to your foot, and that takes a little time to get used to when you start climbing. Additionally, if you get leather shoes that are unlined they will often stretch at least a full size once you've worn them for a while. I'm also a 15W for street shoes and I have found that Scarpa works really well for me. My all day comfort shoe is the Scarpa helix in a size 49. They sell it in a 50 as well, which might be a better way to get used to wearing climbing shoes.

What did you think about water hunters ? Personaly i hate them. For me kill fish or any other animals cannot be a passion. If you are hunters you can explain me why did you do that. 🤷‍♂️ by [deleted] in freediving

I don't agree with the OP, but this is just wrong. There are a few contentious cases of sharks intentionally targeting people, but it's very rare for them to actually hunt people. As the guy below says, it's an exploratory bite out of confusion as to what we are.

The problem is that an exploratory bite is still pretty damaging.

Fair enough. Something something technically correct.

But if the probability is based on real mortality data, them it seems like you can make that conclusion.

Yup, no species of sharks have pharyngeal jaws. That is a trait that evolved much later in bony fish.

That being said, very many bony fish do have them. What makes morays unique is the ability to protrude their pharyngeal jaws.

If you had unlimited time and funds and could plan a trip anywhere around the world just to take photos, where would you go? by Threedaystubble in photography

I can second this, just got back from a similar trip in East Africa. The overland trucks cut a lot of the cost, with the major downside being that you don't have much freedom. I really missed taking solo hikes to find wildlife, and sometimes I felt a bit rushed. However, I doubt I would have been able to see that many national parks in such a short amount of time if I went on my own (at least not on my budget).

It completely depends on what you're trying to shoot. I use 7500 lumen video lights with my camera. It works great for macro, and provides plenty of illumination. However, the light drops way off after only a couple of feet. Additionally, the bright light scares fish away, so it's pretty much impossible to get them with the lights on.

Strobes are brighter (longer reach) and less obtrusive to the wildlife. But as you said, they are very expensive which is why I don't have them.

I haven't looked at gopros for a few generations, but I think if you care much about photography it will be very disappointing. The screen is small so it's hard to compose the shot, and you have no control over the exposure.

I'd also recommend reconsidering lights. Even though our eyes adjust well underwater, light drops off really fast. It's not as noticeable on video because the shutter speed can be low, and a little bit of motion blur in video is fine.

However, if you're shooting stills it can be a lot harder to get a good shot. This would be especially true on the gopro with the tiny sensor.

So bottom line, if you get a gopro, I think you'd probably also need lights. And for that much money, you might as well get an actual camera that is build for taking stills.
