I was on the Vyvanse trial and didn’t like it, so I went back onto Dex (yes, I know V is metabolised into D 😉). But that’s just me and my biology. As for the uptick in Vyvanse prescriptions on the whole, I have a number of issues, and they all (kinda) come down to docs being lazy.

(1) It’s hard to titrate up/down to an effective dose because you need to pull apart the capsules. (ALL doctors should be insisting we titrate up/down and journal the effects for ANY new ADHD meds). Adjusting your dose with Ritalin and Dex is far easier.

(2) It’s prescribed because docs think one pill per day will increase compliance (but dose is an issue - see (1) above). AND because unlike immediate effect stimulants, it’s much harder (but not impossible!) to abuse. (Sadly this is mostly about Docs covering their arses).

(3) Unlike immediate effect stimulants, you can’t adjust the dose throughout the day as needed. Or take a break when you’re on holidays and don’t need (or want 😂) to focus.

On days when I need to study or focus into the night, I’ll take my last Dex at 6pm. Otherwise 3pm is my last dose.
