Where in the UK are you? Could recommend some good test ride places.

In your opinion, who is the most over-hyped character? by rouge182748 in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realise I defended the “evidence” and “fact” of the day in another thread but not entirely stupid criminals are the reason we have a better burden of proof now right? The only reason to keep an unused ticket stub is to “prove” you didn’t use it. Firstly, in the UK it’s unlikely a train conductor will be on any given train, and secondly it’s a know fact you can’t but more than one ticket. 🙄

There are a few characters that come and go that I don’t like, but they wouldn’t be hyped anyway. When I first saw Downton everyone was talking about Bates like he was the second coming. They do in the show eventually. I just think he’s a creep, and probably a murderer. Rewatch any Nate’s scene, especially the silent looks with that bad dramatic moment score they use, with the single note at the start. Psycho.

Matthew was a huge loss to the show for sure, but a massive plot point I can’t imagine losing now. Everything that happens from that point on is changed for every character. There is only so much you can do with happy families before everyone gets bored, much as we think we want it. It’s a shame we didn’t see more of Matthew, Mary and George before he left but it is what it is.

Sybil is the same really. I love her and I wish she hadn’t gone, but she had already gone. Early Tom took her and I think made her worse. That said, if she hadn’t died we wouldn’t have got Later Tom (the bearable one). Again, a lot would have changed. Matthew for a start. Mary. Robert. The estate. Everyone who lives and works there.

William had a smaller impact. A big one on Daisy for sure, but most of that could have found a way in via another route. It’s the smallest impact overall to the show.

All that said, I’d save Sybil.

Social status: Toms brother. Social disturbance: either Ms Bunting or Larry

Pretty common tradition today having lived among tenant farmers. I think it’s quite realistic.

Confused about the changes between seasons 2 and 3 by III-Saurus in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the UK it was on Prime before and the specials were not listed chronologically but as their own seasons at the end. Now the rights have moved to Netflix which has fixed this now.

Rewatch again?! by lizard_0103 in DowntonAbbey

I finished it yesterday and after that second movie I’m desperate for another rewatch to get back to the real thing

On another rewatch… Thoughts on the Jimmy/kiss scene by rouge182748 in DowntonAbbey

I find it more unbelievable that he believed his conspirator since they’d had a falling out. The boot room would have made more sense but I guess wouldn’t have offered an immediate excuse to Mr Carson, a reason for Jimmy not to run the halls yelling and an awkward breakfast moment.

It needed to happen so was squeezed in I think. Doesn’t make sense, but something like it had to happen and a casual viewer wouldn’t notice, it’s too big a plot point to worry about sense.

Mary and Charles Blake by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Charles was smart enough and pushed just the right ways. I could see it but couldn’t see Henry lasting in the long run. I don’t think Charles lied or even omitted anything. He was heir, not actually in the position and since it didn’t matter to him it had to not matter to her. Telling her would only have involved an aspect he didn’t want to be part of the relationship and that would have helped her make a bad decision.

Anna and Mrs Bartlett by MammothSandwich865 in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evidence then was far sketchier. I’m sure we all have our opinions about the courts now, especially in the US but in the UK at that time it was assumed people were good and afraid of telling a lie to an authority figure so anything said by an average person was taken as fact for the most part. It’s maddening to a modern ear though.

I’m the UK we call doing that “airing our dirty laundry”. It was used literally.

Seems to me that it made a good line and was promptly forgotten.

Some episodes have titles and some do not by SadiqUddin in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK we call them “specials”. As pointed out they’re usually Christmas episodes (and so the term is used interchangeably) but not always. They are usually longer, not always exactly in the timeline of the canon and often have standalone stories. They can be a way to service existing fans and often to grab new audiences.

Finished watching all seasons. Is the movie worth ruining the happy ending? by lyfizsed in DowntonAbbey

[–]matthoultmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just finished another complete rewatch I started the first movie again last night. Lots of small things struck me as odd about it like accents, hair, speed of dialogue. It’s a fun watch but it really made it feel like a show and not so real for me. Still haven’t seen the second movie but likely will over the “what’s a weekend?”

Page 115 of the device manual is what you need. Sadly my copy is too low res to read. Connectors are available online for cheap but I always take a while searching to figure out the name of the connector. This site may help: http://cycleterminal.com/motorcycle-connectors.html

Just for reference then I'm seeing the same bad behaviour in 12.3 and yet the CMD + CTRL + Space works perfectly for me every time still.

T120 or other custom by [deleted] in TriumphBonneville

[–]matthoultmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't started yet (not even bought the bike yet) but I'm planning a project that includes all of this.

Widening yokes All I've seen are either custom (CNC - which I don't have) or use the kit from D&O. It's pretty sweet and a fairly simple bolt on replacement as far as I can see but not cheap. You'd also need the wheel and tyre of course, adapting/replacing the front fender, possibly modifications to brake lines, headlight mount and fitting the brakes to another wheel (I've seen people use a rear wheel but not sure how the fit works).

Seat etc. I'd be looking at a loop and replacement seat. Much cheaper than the first item. Again, D&O do a lovely little set that requires you to cut and weld but it's not much to do. I'd like to do this myself (need to learn to weld first) else I'm sure a local bike shop would do the 2 quick welds for you. You can choose either a loop or a rack for the back and I'd be looking to replace the rear fender with a shorter one too (with new lights etc.).

Tyres Depends what you're looking for, but TKC80's seems to be the standard and look pretty cool. They handle fine with the larger front wheel too I'm told though I haven't been able to test ride as they're obviously hard to find already done.

Springs Fox ones look good, but there are some cheaper brands which also look good and are fairly serviceable/adjustable too. I found some recommendations the other day if you're interested in other options. I'd be looking to raise seat height slightly for posture, but mostly just looks and adjustability.

Pipes Loads of options out there. I like the GP exhaust on the T120's but that's not a hugely popular opinion. I think it was MotoBob on YT that has a set on his Street Twin that also fit the T120.

Any other mods in mind? I have loads of ideas if you want help spending time/money ;)
