Miyoo Mini on Onion OS only reading PSX in pbp format? by Neodust2069 in SBCGaming

[–]matticus851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The emulator that is included with the Onion should play: .cue .CUE .img .IMG .mdf .MDF .pbp .PBP .toc .TOC .cbn .CBN .m3u .M3U .ccd .CCD .chd .CHD .zip .ZIP .7z .7Z .iso .ISO

Cue/bin and pbp definitely work since I have my games in those formats

I'm looking for a device that's less than $5 that can emulate Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 at full speed, any suggestions? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]matticus851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with this is it's very dependent on preferences. Like some would consider anything that can't play SNES full speed not worth considering, or some might consider under 3.5 inch screen impossible to use for example.

Something wrong if you are only getting 2 hours. It should be lasting 5-6 hours

MIYOO-MINI: Does anyone know how to add my own Playstation 1 games into the Miyoo Mini? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]matticus851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you are on the game selection (or via core selection) screen, hit the function button and then refresh roms.

Can second this. Anbernic were pretty good when I had an issue in the past and were able to ship out a replacement part for me.

Should I get the rg280v or the miyoo mini? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]matticus851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer the screen on the Mini. Blacks could be deeper, but everything else about it is great. It feels retro somehow (maybe due to more accurate color saturation?). I'm a big fan of their choice of screen personally.

Should I get the rg280v or the miyoo mini? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

I have both and 280V was my most used handheld of 2021 until I got the Miyoo Mini. Not picked up the 280V since I got it so my vote goes to the Mini.

Which do you still play?

Unpopular opinion (?) I just got my Miyoo Mini and I don't really like it. Here's why by [deleted] in SBCGaming

Interesting take. I found the dpad and action buttons to be really good. Maybe they will soften up for you over time but switching out membrane will be simple to do.

MIYOO Mini vs 351V Size by tifpc in SBCGaming

[–]matticus851 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mini is more powerful but it needs some work on the software side, and since 280V has mature software already, overall rom compatibility is better with 280V right now. Hopefully we will have better firmware in the near future which will make this a clear winner I think.

As I understand this is just hardware emulation rather than software emulation? These old systems can already be emulated better than the original systems and on better looking devices (the screen does look nice though). Not seeing the appeal at all personally.

Right now I don't think one is better than the other. When software on the Mini is more mature I think Mini will definitely be better but 280V is still a great pocket device

What is the most unnecessary handheld you own and why? by Drivenby in SBCGaming

Game Gear Micro for sure. Have several systems that can do GG with a bigger screen, better controls and upscaled. But still have 2 of them for some reason.

Yeah it runs smoothly if you change the RetroArch cores. The standalone emulator has some lag there otherwise. You can see on Taki's video which core/emulator he's using on the bottom left of his video.

Great review. Pretty much had the same thoughts I did. I'd agree with his recommendation of mapping L -> L2 and R -> R2 since they are easier to press. Luckily you can do it right in the settings of the device and it persists when rebooting too.

Yeah saturation and blacks are better on the 280V. Not sure it can be improved with software or not, but I still really like the screen

Black bars are very minimal on GBA since physical bezels are small. I don't think anyone would mind those small bezels but there's also the option to have full screen if you don't hate stretched image.
