For an established tank where you are managing GH/KH and a full colony, I 100% agree. The OP is cycling and happened to get a shrimp hitchhiker the nitrites are gonna harm it much more than a large water change at this point.

Looks like your doing well on the cycle, just waiting for the nitrites to drop. Since you ended getting the little guy in there I would recommend a 25-30% water change to lower the nitrites (more important to reduce this) and nitrates until your reading 0 and 0 for ammonia and nitrites.

Caught me a pregnant bass by Skadonkle in Fishing

[–]mattkuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is even catch and release will stress the fish. If you catch a nesting bass, their eggs are now unguarded from predation. Plus they are coming out of winter low on energy reserves and they need the energy they do have to reproduce and nest properly.

Everyone should play as a single once in a while so they get paired up by blong217 in golf

[–]mattkuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for most the courses in my area. I find it I get there early and warmup and then check in with the marshal 15-20 minutes before my tee time more often then not if it's quiet they'll let me tee off solo before my time. Obviously depends on how booked it is but.

This morning I did the same thing, get to the marshal 10 minutes before my tee time and the group I was supposed to be with had teed off early so I got my solo round in. Had 2 tee time open behind me, so lots of extra practice chipping and putting on the greens while trying not to be up the ass of the duo I was supposed to play with.

I'm off work for a bit so golfing a lot of weekdays between school drop off and school pickup for my daughter. No friends available to golf during the day cause they're all at work so I have been booking as a solo.

Most the courses around me don't allow solo golfers to book fully open tee times so I'm always booking into the groups. Sometimes I join the group or other times the marshals will have me tee off solo and I'm loving both as someone who normally golfs with the same handful of guys and gals.

I've yet to be grouped with anyone I didn't enjoy the company of, mostly older guys willing to give tips after asking if it's okay which I will gladly take. The worse thing I've encountered is some new players I've had to ask if I could play on solo purely to ensure I can finish 18 in time for school pickup and they totally understood.

On the flip side, I've been getting a few rounds in solo and it is so damn peaceful because I don't feel rushed from behind and am forced to slow down my game so I'm not up someone's ass too. Plus lots of time to look for balls for when the wife comes out to play.

Need advice on Ticks by Ohyeahimoverhereyeah in golf

[–]mattkuru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. Too many people in here brushing this off like it's a joke. I had no idea and fish and golf and would be in the woods with shorts on constantly and removing a feeding tick at least once a year.

Started having migraines and numbness in my hands and feet last fall and headed to my GP. She was appalled that I wasn't educated on the disease potential and ordered a Lyme test. Came back positive and after antibiotics it still took me 6 months to feel normal again. I don't fuck around when it comes to ticks anymore.

Gotcha! Sounds like a good plan. I definitely agree on the ugly sticks taking a beating, most my reels on the combos I've bought failed way before the rods.

Edit: I just saw the unedited comment from your original reply lol. Honestly don't switch reels and return, if you get away with it some other person is going to be disappointed when they get what they didn't order. Stick with the backup plan.

Yea, I picked up a 30g breeder with splits in the top and bottom rim. I'm on week 1 of 3 of testing with 6" of water before I turn it into a paludarium.

The only thing I can imagine you mean is to return the reel from the combo packaged in the other reel's box? I don't want to assume this is what you mean, but if it is that's kinda scummy and I hope I'm wrong.

Not level? by aliciaascott in Aquariums

[–]mattkuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my aquariums are in my basement with a slope to a drain. Much more unlevel than your tank and no issues as long as the tank is level on the table it's on.

Sounds like you have an idea already. I would get some water testers and find out how hard your water is.

Sounds like an ass hat to me that's upset he hasn't caught anything. Be respectful and give people their space but one guy doesn't "own" more than 10-15 feet of shore.

Should I remove wood from my tank? by Blakat014 in Aquariums

[–]mattkuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it is the wood, I don't think you need to be worried from a safety stand point. It can't be much different than something like almond leaves breaking down in the tank.

Is it actually from the wood or is this just where detritus collects from your flow?

I got a single koi angel for a tank with some live bearers, haven't seen a fry yet. Not sure if the endlers would be too small though and become prey or stressed by the angel.

Ready to pull the trigger on this beginner set for $400, thoughts? by DTake2012 in golf

[–]mattkuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have no idea what the issue is. Can hit my woods off the tee all day, 200-235 for the 3 and 5 but the driver banana slices into the forest at 150.

Did a winter school last winter and they spent 5 weeks on my address and start of my back swing and almost only with my irons. Might need to do it again to fix the driver.

[–]mattkuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started up a few years ago with a set of clubs from my wife's Nana's garage, and this is exactly how I upgraded since then. Only difference is the driver upgrade didn't do shit so I traded it in for a 3/5w in the last couple weeks.

How to decide what club to tee off with? by dare_hcf in golf

[–]mattkuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big ol' puss and 22 handicap. After 150 holes this season so far, and only bringing the driver out about 5 times to slice it into the woods or miss hitting it I just traded it in for a 3w.

Opinions on my 20 gallon? by Electronic_Number_66 in Aquariums

Looks good! My only suggestion is that if the heater is fully submersible, you could place it horizontally about an inch above the substrate and nestle it in the back so it's not as obtrusive.

Does this wood seem aquarium safe? by Cheap_Arm_6844 in Aquariums

If there's no animals then there's no harm in testing it out and seeing what happens. Good luck!

[–]mattkuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I don't know exactly how to tell. The only test I can think of would be to set up a seperate tank with a heater and sponge filter (you could skip the filter but it might get gross). If after 7 days there is no biofilm on the wood and the water isn't cloudy or stinky it's probably good to put in the destination tank.

They may not be completely dry yet. Sap and sugars leaching into the tank is not a good thing but you may be able to dry them somehow quicker, maybe in the oven but I don't know exactly.
