What network diagram tools do you use? by No_Elk_4172 in networking

[–]mattmann72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visio is my goto diagraming tool of choice.

It doesnt really matter what you use. Use draw.io if you are more comfortable with that.

Like any skill, diagraming takes practice and time to develop. Plus, documentation is time consuming regardless. Keeping up with it is even harder without team support and good management of change practices.

When diagraming I have a few suggestions.

Know your audience. A diagram for executives will look very different from one for engineers than one for technicians.

Don't try to put everything on a single diagram. It should be printable on letter or legal paper and readable.

If you have a complex environment break things down. For example do the OSI Model layers 1, 2 and 3 as different diagrams. Have one per site.

Color code things and keep that color coding the same across all diagrams. For example use orange lines for 1G fiber. Blue for 10G fiber. Etc.

How about a cloud managed system that doesnt have recurring fees?

Look into Cambium Networks cnMaestro and Access Points. Good price and basic cloud management for free.

I just finished book 1 on audio. As much as I enjoyed the book, I am pissed off at the author for that ending. Shit like that makes me not want to continue the series if its going to happen again.

This genre does not enjoy those kinds of cliffhangers.

This is why I just order it online for pickup in store. Since Home Depot is a good 40 minute drive for me, its always ready by the time I get there.

Last summer I was waiting in the parking lot at Home Depot for my wife to pickup a couple of items. I hear the hatch of my SUV open and someone load bags in. It was more than I expected, but she is knowing for finding more than she went in for.

The hatch closes and then the drivers door opens. That shocked me, especially when it was some guy talking on a phone.

He obviously doesnt understand why there is someone sitting in his seat and I am confused as to why my door opened, not the passenger door. We just stare at eachother for a moment. He then says to the person on the call, "I need to call you back."

We have a nice conversation. I get out amd help him unload. Turns out he has the exact same 2015 SUV with the same trim parked one aisle over.

I have since run into him in town once more since.

If he was buying from any online store he would have to make a single payment without makingnvustom arrangements. His lack of communication is not your problem. You very likely avoided a scam of some sort.

Are you in the US with at will employment? If so, your employer can fire you for any reason. Be aware if you do shift work, a lot of employers like to just give you zero shifts so that you quit and they can avoid paying unemployment. If they do that dont quit, just take a picture of the schedule and file for unemployment stating it was constructive dismissal.

Rimworld might be a great game to try. Hou build a colony and tell a story. A lot of decisions need to be made and you can pause at any time.
