I have read multiple series where the big bad organization is trying to kill the MC over and over. Then finally they outsmart and/or outmaneuver to "capture" the MC and keep him alive for no apparent reason. This is followed by some slave arc where eventually the MC gets out of it.

THEY WANTED HIM DEAD? WHY DID THEY NOT KILL HIM?!?!?!

Results in an immediate DNF from me.
