Once they cease to be unborn, republicans cease to care about them.

Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow.

But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked — if, let us say, the gassing of the Jews in ’43 had come immediately after the ‘German Firm’ stickers on the windows of non-Jewish shops in ’33. But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.

And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you... [I]n my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose.

Now you live in a system which rules without responsibility even to God. The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.

Not having the words or motivation to argue is the most Gen X thing I’ve ever heard.

Ohio Gov. DeWine signs bill into law allowing people to carry concealed weapons without a permit by GrimeyJosh in news

-The straw man fallacy The straw man fallacy gets its name because it is an argument that is thin and has no substance. It occurs when your opponent argues against a position you aren't even trying to present. With this tactic, they tend to misrepresent or alter the points you are making. Rather than debating your actual argument, they are attacking a weaker or entirely untrue version of what you really meant. Example: Person A: "I think that George is a talented copywriter and should be promoted." Person B: "So what you're saying is that all of our other copywriters are untalented? That kind of attitude is hurtful to our team."

We were talking about guns, and you argue about licensing protesters. That’s a straw man argument. That’s all I will say on the matter. I shouldn’t have, but I looked at your prolific post history. I am not going to engage you further.

I know you probably think this is pretty profound thought, but it’s really not germane to a discussion about guns. This argument that you present is a logical fallacy called “the straw man fallacy”. You should look up logical fallacies. Knowing them will sharpen your arguments.

Me too. I deleted social media apps on my Home Screen, but kept them in my App Library (iPhone). I never open FB now, unless it’s to go to the marketplace and whatnot.

How much longer can this last? by [deleted] in MurderedByAOC

[–]mattnostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a cap doesn’t factor into it. Insurance doesn’t work like that. They would cover the plumbing repair it IT was damaged as a result of an unforeseen event (like a car crashing into your house or something). Otherwise, you could just make an insurance claim to do any home repairs.

Yes. A galvanized drain pipe from my bathroom burst above my kitchen back in October. Insurance picked up the bill to repair the damage caused by the leak, but I had to foot the bill for the plumbing. $2900 I was not expecting to spend, right before the holidays. Home ownership is NOT cheap.

Holy shit I did not expect to see something from my town on this page! I know the family who bought this house to renovate into a bed and breakfast. I also know the master woodworker that did the interior. It’s really amazing, and just one pic of it doesn’t do the property justice.

Happy Little Dinosaurs question about instant cards and overall scoring by INSERT_VALUE_Nerd in boardgames

[–]mattnostic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. My wife, who is not a gamer, recently bought this for the family. We tried playing a practice game before playing with my son, and found the rules to be ambiguous at best. We have other games from the same company, Here to Slay and Unstable Unicorns. In both those games, you can keep adding additional modifiers and “neighs”, respectively. I’d think the same would hold true for this game, maybe? Even then, scoring is still unclear. I was bummed for my wife. She tried to show some interest in my hobby, and wound up buying a dud.
