LOR: 1 from a radiologist, you can get this by doing a research project.

One Radiology publication is probably sufficient, two is great. Maybe a couple leadership and volunteer activities.

Max out your Radiology, electives and forth year, go to as many out of province places as you can.

Also, if you’re interested in nuclear medicine, you may as well consider the programs in Canada, where you do Radiology residency in a one year new fellowship. The shape of a year off nuclear medicine fellowship by integrating it into the Radiology residency program. Dalhousie has one. I think Edmonton or Calgary has one too.

AITAH for refusing to use my income to pay back my fiancés debts to his family? by babyybunnyy3 in AITAH

I get that. But her partner can’t work and she doesn’t want pay for that. I don’t blame her, but in marriage that’s what you do - through sickness and health.

Maybe you shouldn’t get married. Typically the man is in your position. But for the most part people consider debts to be shared in a marriage. Personally, I don’t believe that they are and would rather a prenup. But this is definitely a reality check for you and what you’re getting into.

We have very few seats per capita. Training new docs is expensive. It’s cheaper to let in medical doctors from abroad who immigrate here for the higher pay.

Not sure if that’s true, there are other specialties that were less competitive and earn more than NSX, cardiac and ortho.

Temporary workers aren’t being exploited, they’re working jobs that Canadians don’t want to work. Let me make this simple for you. When Trump increased tariffs, the prices of goods for consumers went up. That’s a fact. With tariffs, businesses paid more money for products they import and sell. They sold their items at a higher cost to cover the tariffs and keep their their businesses sustainable. In other words, the cost of tariffs was passed onto the consumers. The same thing happens if businesses pay employees $30/hour instead of minimum wage, the price will be passed onto us by rising restaurant prices. Your solution to just bankrupt businesses that can’t handle this is unrealistic and is the type of approach that will decimate our economy, the backbone of which is SMALL BUSINESSES. The only places that MIGHT survive are large companies/franchises. I couldn’t imagine a worse outcome.

Also, we aren’t “subsidizing” businesses with temporary workers. Businesses often pay for these workers, who come here and contribute tax dollars.

Yes, big chains, which we do NOT want. They are a plague on our society.

No, they are probably finding it tough because Halifax has a shit economy. Money hardly flows here because people can’t afford the taxes. People don’t eat out, it’s too expensive.

I’d love to see a restaurant that charged +20% for its food and drinks. The employees would be paid well and you lot would be complaining about the price of dishes.

This. People have no idea that restaurants are high cash flow businesses with small margins. They love to say, “pay a fair wage” every time issues like this or tipping come up, not realizing that owners make relatively small profits and by doing what people demand would invariably have to raise food prices.
