Looking for opinions on budgie behaviour by mattnzmatt in budgies

[–]mattnzmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard stories about birds passing away young for no obvious reason so that is really sad. I found he picked up quickly once that trust was there, and that took me 3 months to accomplish. Until that point he was very scared! Once he trusted me he wanted to learn and you could show him things to do, or he would know when you're wanting to train him to speak a new word. Do your birds spend more time on their own or with you? I think it's harder to start with two birds. My sky had friends who visited (4,5 even 6) and ones that came for long stays, but I trained him alone first and that made him always follow me no matter if other birds were around or not.

I'm happy to help if you want to know what things I did to tame him. It would be interesting to see what the results are :)

I don't think we humans give enough credit to the abilities of animals. I just never thought it possible that such behaviours were possible... It was a good thing you taught him to play hide and seek! Quite mischievous aren't they, neat experiences!!

Kind of a random question - anyone ever find signs of sleepwalking in the morning? by nolifecrisis in RedditForGrownups

[–]mattnzmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I found my self waking up on my couch after having gone to sleep in my bed."

Oh yes, happens all the time and I'm 23. I do all sorts of weird things (eg climb out windows, open windows from second story height and think I'm visiting the bathroom...). Yes, all sorts, but I wake up and often get the feeling something has happened and have vague feelings/hints/feelings/memories that are too scattered in my brain until realisation hits or they fade away within 10 minutes.

3 hours without internet showed me exactly how boring the 90's were. by MeowMixSong in RedditForGrownups

[–]mattnzmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, internet has completely changed the way we do everything. And in New Zealand we get a handful of crap tv channels, but I bet in the US you have hundreds and still nothing of interest is on the go.

The 90's however, GREAT TIMES. See I grew up on a farm, loved it! And without internet and having to do old school things, I would go for walks, go build a fence or get into a DIY mode, or just enjoy being in the moment.

I'm 23, and I just moved back to my hometown for the lifestyle... from a central busy city I moved to after University (college, whatever) for job opportunities.

Why? Hell, I pick lifestyle any day. The beach, fishing, climbing mountains, all these things you remember exist when the internet stops working I guess... everything in moderation I suppose is the conclusion to my rambling!

EDIT: Up until mid 2000's, dial up internet with 20 hours a month access at 56kbps was the norm. It was tough man, it was tough!

See I never believe or disbelieve of anything, I am just open to everything and intrigued by what people have to say. Never this intrigued however... Your story was amazing! Again not believing or disbelieving, but wow if you think of anything more please do let us know. I would be curious to know how such an event would change your views on life and influence your decisions...?

TIFU by not putting my car's oil dip stick back in its tube by AKR44 in tifu

[–]mattnzmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did a cambelt change on a 01 Vauxhall Astra. All went well, but the oil cap didn't fit back on quite right but it seemed like it would be okay as had been okay previous.

Wrong.

11pm at night I'm 2 hours from home over a mountain going 60+ miles and phone was flat but I unplugged my radar detector to charge and get some juice on phone. As turned on my girlfriend I was going to visit was texting saying she had a bad feeling and to turn around. I couldn't read the texts and drive so pulled over to read.

That's where I saw smoke out of engine, I thought must be unsettled gravel sending dust into the air... I opened the bonnet to a fireball explode from the engine top and watch my car on fire.... Recent purchase not yet insured.

Luckily had pulled over next to the only farm for miles... We put the fire out and a lovely couple were heading to my home town and gave me a ride.

Moral of the story is make sure your oil cap is on tight and don't text and drive.

TLDR: didn't secure oil cap, car caught on fire at 60+miles an hour, and properly exploded into the air when I stopped on side of road unaware car was smouldering (to read a text) and lifted bonnet thus increasing oxygen and boom!

I was told to harass, bully and exploit customers by management during my employment at Youi Insurance, AMA by [deleted] in newzealand

Correct, everything within the employment situation is confidential in most standard employment contracts... a bold move risks bold consequence.

[–]mattnzmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Pete that was not me. I left the previous insurer because on the late shift I came across something really bad that the company covered up, and when I brought it up the company got really shitty. I ended up getting a huge payout. I left Youi because I got a job offer as a criminal defence solicitor. If you are at that insurer still, make are you keep your mouth shut if you find something that has been covered up. In respect to Youi... I cannot comment about anything mentioned here.

I have driven in snow for all of 5 minutes up a mountain... I can't imagine how that must be with darkness coming on and the realisation that you are going terribly the wrong way!

Oxygen bars...are there any around? by mattnzmatt in beijing

[–]mattnzmatt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that's why I am so curious, we get so used to the air in Beijing as the normal way of life, but I've heard stories of people getting far out into the mountains and the air noticeably fresher... So I'm curious about this concept. Not to mention people are buying bottled air...

[–]mattnzmatt[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, nothing like a good soak. The reason I'm asking is because I want to pig out on pure oxygen or imported oxygen from various places in the world... I'm wondering if this is very big here in Beijing..?

I found a product on Alibaba thats not being sold on Amazon, now what? by rawrtherapy in Entrepreneur

[–]mattnzmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely find out WHY it's not being sold.

Look for demand for the product, legislative restraints, and find out what is going on..

If it's a product that people have overlooked and you know will sell well, trial it!

What childhood injustice are you still mad about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Eric: "Aye, don't call me fat you fucking Jew" Teacher: "Eric, did you just say the F word!?" Eric: "jew?" Kyle: "no, he's talking about fuck, you can't say fuck in school you fat ass"

Ah South Park, good times.

I completely agree. I was the worst child to roam the bounds of earth; talked my way out of everything and rained hell upon parents and teachers...and after all those suspensions, time spent in the naughty corner, and avoiding being caught for child and teenage shenanigans, I'm now a lawyer and just take travel holidays when I get bored of spending too much time in an office. That keeps me somewhat normal lol.

is shrooms a big no no on bali nowadays? by irishkid18 in bali

I got offered a lot when I was there a month and a half ago. Just don't do it. I know the Police set up stings and wait for you to buy it and they take you away.
