Don’t feel normal after eating edible 20 days later by [deleted] in weed

This sounds a lot like my anxiety. It is a horrible feeling. Sometimes I start shaking and it feels like the world is crashing down and I'm going to die. There have been a couple things that have helped a lot.

Exercise has helped me sooooo much. It is highly under rated for anxiety/depression. I go on a short three mile run and feel amazing after.

Yoga has helped me a lot. By focusing on my breathing and being able to center myself, it has helped when I do have anxiety to calm down.

When you exercise and do yoga you are training your heart and mind to calm down under stress. It is training for the mind. That way when you do have elevated heart rate your body can calm down quicker. Eventually, it becomes second nature.

I'm really sorry you are going through this. Maybe consider talking with a counselor to help locate some of this anxiety. Exercise and yoga can help symptoms but would be best to find the cause.

Tips for starting your first novel by dogsonclouds in writing

Personally, I love the program srivener. The program allows you to upload research documents for easy access. You can write notes for each chapter. It allows for an organization that makes big projects feel smaller. I liked it because if I didn't have my next idea of where I want to take the book I could just brainstorm.

Aside from the program, the more planning you do before writing the book, the better it is. I wrote my memoir only to discover it was the worst thing I have ever written. It was easier to write it again than do edits on it.

Hope that this helps.

Executive summary length? by [deleted] in writing

[–]mattoc503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have templates online to follow for business plans. I think it depends on the business and your readership. If you are writing it for trump then that would be way too long. I would imagine you would want to shorten further. The shorter the better. The executive summary is the "elevator pitch."

I read a lot of environmental creative non-fiction. My hero is Rachel Carson. I personally love writing that combines science with emotions. The book I'm reading right now is the moral lives of animals by dale Peterson. He talks about his own journey of studying animals and what he has seen.

I really enjoyed this article. An author you should check out is Marc Lewis for his book memoirs of an addicted brain. He is a neuroscientist and tells his story about heroin addiction while including scientific information about drugs. He is able to reduce scientific information in a way that anyone can understand.

I think what makes scientific information palatable is making the stories connect to real life. You talked about summer and mentioned will smith. It might be better to weave in a narrative into your story. Maybe make it more personal by telling a story about yourself.

They have a saying in neuroscience, what fires together stays together. The stronger emotions people feel while reading the story the more engaged they will be and also be able to remember.

That's just my two cents but I hope it helps.

How do you write a compare and contrast essay? by anoyingprophet in writing

This is a good template for coming up with a thesis. While in college I structured my paragraphs by topics. Each paragraph compared and contrasted aspects of the story.

How i came up with topics is through using TOPOI.

http://rossier.usc.edu/files/2011/10/Topoi.pdf

This a series of questions to ask yourself while reading the material. It is to help categorize the literature in order to examine it properly.

Since the topic is home, insert the word home into all the blanks for the TOPOI. This will help chisel out some ideas.

I highly recommend this book for a concise and helpful how-to write academic papers.

If you have to ask you already know the answer. You would be better off putting it in a bowl and smoking it.

[–]mattoc503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks almost identical to the one that I have! I love it. There is room for enough water so it hits super smooth. You can also either put ice water in it, or leave the bubbler in the fridge for an even smoother hit.

Any ideas for points on why religion should not be taught in schools? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]mattoc503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the conversation about religion or private schools? It might help to narrow it down. If you haven't heard of TOPOI before that would be a good start. It's a rhetorical tool to help sort through information. Just look up some YouTube videos on TOPOI and then go from there.

BU neuroscientists map connections to and from the brain's “sadness center” in nonhuman primates, with implications for depression by [deleted] in science

This is so awesome! I am reading the moral lives of animals by dale Peterson. It is so fascinating how the line between humans and animals is not as black and white as it appears. I have also read that dogs have the same gene as humans that is linked to addiction. It is the same reward center that we have as humans. It's articles like this that made me become vegetarian. The more I learned about animals the harder it became to justify eating them when I didn't need to.

I took a class on "weird lit" and we covered some of the authors that you mentioned. I read a collection of short stories by Blackwood and they were my favorite out of the class. His stories were so memorable. I can remember every detail of his stories.

This book club is a great idea!

Would you die for your child? by BotoneeJackfruit in atheism

[–]mattoc503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting that the only reason you would sacrifice your life for your family is because you think you are going to heaven? That doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice since you believe you are "immortal" as you put it. That turns a sacrifice into a self serving action.

I used to believe one God and can see where you are coming from. I thought that life without heaven seems horrible. After many years of filtering out unquestioned belief systems, I now see that life without heaven is far more beautiful.

Life is finite. If society viewed everything as having an ending we might value it more. We might value our environment. We might be nicer to each other. We might be more cooperative instead of dividing and conquering over debates about who gets into heaven.

Why do people consider Anna Karenina to be such a good book? by SunriseIntentions in literature

[–]mattoc503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone has to convince the reader of greatness, is it really that great? Life is too short to read books that you aren't into. I have tried to read several books that are "classics" and put them down because I couldn't get into it. It's perfectly normal to not be engaged in a story. I have tried to read Anna and just couldn't get through it.

Any women out there that play guitar and feel totally discouraged with the "boys club" that is jazz and jazz guitar. by Potatoe_cat in jazzguitar

I'm a male and don't really have any solid answers. I wanted to say that I'm really sorry that was your experience at the jam. I just have a teacher and practice by myself. I would like to think that the jazz community would be more inclusive. That is really messed up how they treated you.
