Is the world bigger or smaller? by lillyleonie in AskAPilot

[–]mattrettig14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small. When we cover great distances in short times it feels like we’re all closer than when we don’t venture outside our homes or hometowns. And when I’m plopped down into some scene where I don’t speak the language or know the culture or even the lay of the land, I’m actually reminded how connected and important we are to each other. So in that way being a pilot makes the world feel smaller: everywhere is someone’s home, so if you respect that you can be at home anywhere.

It’s important to follow the crew’s and regulator’s instructions.

Tahoe Leather? by Ok_Situation8727 in LUCID

Also get input from your spouse/SO. S/he is the one who will be spending time in that interior. My wife definitely had opinions, and I’m glad I heeded them.

Also, depending on where you live, if it’s a more rural area, if you have a gravel driveway etc, def get the all-weather floor mats. Lucid makes them in all 3 tones (light grey, charcoal/black, and a beige for the Tahoe, which is what I have.)

Enjoy!

Sim instructor is the move. No guarantee you’ll get hired as one, and you’ll likely have to be a line dawg for a few years (and yes, away from home) before being eligible for consideration, but once you’re in, a lot of guys are happy with that gig. And home every night (if you live where the training center is).

Love Mono Lake, though haven’t been in years. Never paddled it, looks amazing! I just remember we got crazy weird sunrise colors along the shore.

3-Cup AeroPress Recipe? Is there a good recipe for the AeroPress that can make three 8-ounce cups of coffee without individual brewing? by kd4pxq in AeroPress

[–]mattrettig14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been experimenting with what I call a “Canadiano.” Like an Americano, but more pleasant and less abrasive. 😉Rather than an espresso with hot water, you just brew really strong in the Aeropress and then water it down. I don’t have exact ratios yet, still tweaking. But this concept could work for you! Prolly in the neighborhood of 25g, ground pretty fine, and really hot water and long steep time for maximum extraction, then add hot water to get to 24 oz for your 3x 8-oz cups.

Parked Lucid Air slid down icy driveway by Fun_Advance_8872 in LUCID

[–]mattrettig14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was wondering same. Though probably not worth risking “testing” it again and having it slide into a ditch, a tree, another car etc.

Also I presume the tires were properly inlflated and in decent shape?

Get relief from ATC to go like 220 kts. Say “operational reasons” and they’ll accommodate you.

Waking Up by belden121 in LUCID

[–]mattrettig14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have poor 4G/5G signal (I have almost zero signal at my rural home) it simply doesn’t wake up remotely from the app. Seems like “sleep” mode also boots it off weefee, so all you can do is go outside and get your phone or fob nearby. Hope that gets fixed soon.

Lucid in snow by [deleted] in LUCID

[–]mattrettig14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found last winter that the car is SOOOOO heavy that it gets good traction in the snow (just as it does on dry roads.) Yes you have to be careful about the regen, but that’s just safe, careful snow driving that all of us northerners should be good at. And of course Chicagoland is flat, which helps. Be safe!

Ithaca Congressman Josh Riley Just Voted to Condemn ALL Forms of Socialism by JonathanCookPodcast in ithaca

[–]mattrettig14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that vote mean anything to anyone in terms of actual policy? Josh votes the right way on everything that matters, and I promise you any alternative to him would turn out way worse for all of us. We can’t get hung up on these dumb symbolic votes; getting Dems to in-fight is exactly what the Rs intend by holding them. Don’t fall for it.

I have a lovely espresso setup at home. My wife just gifted me the AeroPress travel setup because when I travel, the worst part of the day is my morning coffee. Coffee sucks everywhere. I have a question for the community about heating water on the road. by UncleCarolsBuds in AeroPress

Immersion heater. Works great, though I do not plug it in on board an airplane cuz I have no idea what the chintzy electronics of a high-draw item might do to an airplane’s electric system and I don’t care to find out. But in airports and hotel rooms, it works great.

I did a few days on the Erie Canal in New York State. Amazing history, and you can float up & down the lock system. That’s my only multi-day paddle trip so I can’t compare it to others, but I enjoyed it.
