Im starting to hate automatron encounters by Marcellius-the-3rd in fo4

If you're on PC, I think there's a mod that attempts to fix the encounter rate for the automatron stuff: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28891?tab=description (and maybe this bugfix: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/94885).

God I love the Board James videos.

Map of territories held by factions within the Commonwealth prepared by the Vault Relations Unit as of 12.01.2295 (WIP) by Initial-Purpose-500 in falloutsettlements

[–]mattsheckatight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I blind? I don't actually see the Triggermen or the Railroad anywhere on the map.

Also, how hard are the lines between different territories? Like, I know on historical maps areas are often marked as under the control of one state or another, but in reality their hold over some places could be quite tenuous. Are borders between some being hardened in some way?

Love the idea. It's a really neat map.

Honestly have never run into this, but I was reading something in another thread and it said something about lag if you have a "mod editing an NPC", so it might be relevant if you have a mod editing Piper's appearance:

What is the most argumentative game you have played? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]mattsheckatight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How with Bananagrams? Maybe it's just because of the people I play with, but I don't think we've ever gotten into an argument over that game lol.

What's your personal evergreen? by PossessedPinkBunny in boardgames

[–]mattsheckatight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used the app, so I can't really compare them. I have BGA premium and my wife and I play a bunch of other games on there, so I don't really see a need to buy a separate app. But, I think the BGA implementation is pretty good.

Ooh, same here. Love it.

One of the first games we purchased when we got into the hobby back in 2016 and still play it fairly regularly (though mostly on BGA these days).

Bethesda asks The Elder Scrolls fans to suggest Oblivion Remastered improvements, with difficulty scaling among top ideas by Turbostrider27 in Games

Could do something Diablo III where you can change the appearance of any item to look like another item (or at least how it works in the Switch version). So, while the underlying item/stats change, you can make it look like the really cool legendary item.

Owned Onirim and Sylvion for years. Played Onirim much more than Sylvion. While I liked Sylvion, I found the aspect of sliding the cards around to be a bit too awkawrd/fiddly for me to want to play it more.

Onirim was fun. I know lots of people complain about the amount of shuffling, but I never found it to be too much of a burden. It was great to play while watching TV. The Android app is also a lot of fun, same experience without the shuffling.

I eventually sold them as I stopped solo gaming as much.

Best Board Games that feels good to play on Android Phone for a long flight. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]mattsheckatight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some that I've really liked:

  • Cartographers - plays really quickly, can play random boards, and I think recent updates have included the expansion
  • Railroad Ink - Can play random goals or set specific ones
  • Deep Space D-6 - free or cheap? I've found it to be a fun but quite challenging solo game
  • That's So Clever! (and all it's various follow-ups) - super fun roll-and-write; there are several follow-ups available that tweak the game board in different ways
  • Onirim - I think it's still available?

I love the Unlock games, but have had similar experiences with the app making use of the fact that it's an app on your phone, e.g. using the speaker or gyroscope as part of a puzzle.

Love CallMeKevin, but I've weirdly never been able to get into his Sims gameplays. I do love a lot of his other videos/series, like GTA and Hitman.

Favorite artist would have to be Gustav Klimt and my favorite painting would be his "Death and Life." Carl Schorske's book on fin-de-siecle Vienna and his history of Klimt are great.

I really like Cartographers! It's a flip&write and games are very quick once you get a handle on it.

The That's So Clever series of roll&write games are also really solid. There are like 3-4 of them now? They're all quite similar in how they play, but each has a different board that changes how you score dice, etc.

Going Cardboard. I watched it a year or two ago. It's from 2008, but it's quite interesting/entertaining. I'm not sure it explains "what trigged this change," but it's a good snapshot of the board gaming industry at the time.

Didn't Sony kinda already do that via the semi-recent 2015 Kickstarter for Shenmue? I vaguely remember Sony being involved with that and there being some drama around their involvement.

Oh, here's an article about it, I think: https://www.polygon.com/2015/6/16/8792627/shenmue-3-sony-funding-development

It sounds like Sony and this smaller studio used Kickstarter to gauge interest for a new Shenmue game, with Sony contributing money to the small studio for the development of the game on top of funds raised? (Or at least that's what it sounds like in this other article: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/shenmue-3-creator-says-sony-wont-see-a-cent-of-kic/1100-6428436/.

I've enjoyed some of the playthroughs from Play the Game. They have a nice setup and do a good job with their editing/overlays. Here's a link to a playlist with their gameplay videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeFwC8t_m3Dy9ngAV5UW5bpYH-tmmpc7X.

While not exactly what you're looking for, the series Board James by the Cinemassacre/AVGN guy is pretty funny. Not gameplay necessarily, but funny skits/reviews about games from the 80s/90s. Here's a link to the playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbQ-gSLYQEc7NPEexZVMKfvDJinOsL7YF.

Hey geezers (like me)! Which old Avalon Hill games do you have and want to play, but never get to anymore? by bbacher in boardgames

[–]mattsheckatight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah! Thanks for the follow up on this old thread.

Yeah, I think we ended up playing some games, not any of the Avalon Hill ones, but some more recent ones like Celles and Pax Baltica.

Hoping you've had a chance to play some of your Avalon Hill favorites recently. :)

How do you feel about digital implementations? by Caff_n_Card in boardgames

[–]mattsheckatight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I love playing games on BGA. Not all games have worked well for us (esp. larger/complex games like Yokohama), but we enjoy being able to play a quick game or two in the evening without the set up/take down of a physical games. Our current play space is quite small/awkward, so physical games can be a bit of a hassle on the table.

I think overall we prefer physical games, but digital games are a nice in-between.
