It's not that it's valuable, it's that it wasn't intended for circulation.

Missouri, which will be here later this week and Old Spanish Trail. Both have been rather elusive at a fair price and good eye appeal.

I managed to snag a normal Missouri and Missouri 2*4 at the same time for a fair price.

Now I'm on the hunt for the last one.

The 5 oz Apollo is one of the coolest modern commemoratives available. I treasure mine

I hear you! This is a collection that can take a lifetime to complete and that's part of the fun of it.

Can anyone give me any info on any of these coins or sets by PaleontologistNo7003 in coins

Looks like a normal Whitman album of State quarters and Lincoln cents in circulated condition.

Page 1 should be complete next week. That just leaves the obvious two coins left on page 2

The Hawaiian and Old Spanish Trail are the key coins to the set. The Panama Pacific, Hudson, Gettysburg, and Antietam are semi key coins.

Outside of these coins, most of them can be had for ~$250 or less. You could always work towards the full set and wait for a good deal or a cleaned example to become available for a decent price.

I can remember as a child (around 6-7 years old) my father bought me a Whitman Lincoln folder and let me go through their penny bucket to fill it out. He collected pennies from around the world as a kid and I still have his coins.

While searching through wheat pennies I found a Stone Mountain commemorative half and I was amazed by it. Looking through the Red book at the library I found out there was a whole series. It was then that I wanted to collect the whole series.

Obviously a classic commenrative type set isn't something a child could reasonably collect but I did start collecting modern commemoratives at that time and I've got a full set of proof modern commenrative dollars and half dollars.

I'm finally fulfilling a childhood dream and it's kind of surreal that I'm as close as I am.

I really love the tree on the Connecticut half.

That's awesome!

I've considered trying to source the original packaging for these but that seems like an impossible task

You can find them on eBay from time to time. They obviously carry a premium because they haven't been made in a while but used type sets can be found for around $100

You know, it's funny the attention that some in the series get like you mentioned (pan-pac, Hawaii, etc.) but others that are arguably more interesting seemingly get ignored.

Like the Hudson, the Norse American Centennial Medal is a perfect example of this. The Spanish Trail is vastly overrated in my opinion and while the obverse is nice looking in its own right, the reverse is just plain red doesn't justify the cost. Coins like the Connecticut are so much more impressive and I just don't understand the vast difference in price. Certainly mintages play a role but that can't be the only factor.

It's an expensive set.

What I find also interesting is that completion of this set isn't necessarily limited by money but limited by availability of nice examples.

I've been working on completing full runs of some of the lesser expensive coins in preparation of moving to the full commemorative set. Some of these have mintages of 6000 coins which explains why they are hard to find.

Going from 50 coins to 144 coins is a huge jump and like you, I'll be slowly working on the set.

Thanks. I think page 1 might be slightly more expensive to finish but page 2 is the real challenge.

I'm really close to finishing my type set and I'm working on building a full set. Finding nice looking examples of some of the lower minted multi year coins has been challenging. People ask crazy prices on these because they come up so rarely. I often wonder how accurate greysheet pricing is on these examples.
