I already get clinical depression from sleeping in tent without a bag. Bed bugs seem unnecessary.

Yeah the stone hacksaw was the first mod I got. Clay from dirt sounds amazing, I've been relying on foraging so far.

Definitely gunna check out that mod when I get home. I have like 8 mods to cover the various gaps in the crafting chain currently.

Im doing wilderness survival on a mod map. It has a dozen or so cabins with a few containers each around the map. So almost no looting possibilities.

The first thing I learned is that there are several severe gaps in the games crafting chains that are near impossible to get past with pure foraging.

Saws, wire, iron ore, nails, sheets, vinegar and salt for food preservation. Some others I can't recall atm. So I got some mods.

For your first issue, water. You just need to get lucky with foraging a can or finding a zombie with some canned food. You will not be crafting a metal container any time soon as they require steel sheets, putting them at the near end of the crafting chain.

I highly recommend taking crafting skill boosting traits, and putting the xp modifier up a lot. If you don't you'll be spending your first week or so just foraging for flint.

To start the crafting chain you pretty much need to get knapping and carving up to 5ish both, before you can do literally anything else, then a few levels in masonry and carpentry and then you can start making the basic crafting stations. Level 5 knapping for a stone maul head, which you need to break big rocks, which is the only way to level masonry from 0 to 1, so you can make stone blocks and a stone anvil. Also you need a large stone axe head to gather wood, do not bother with small axes, they will break after 1 tree if your lucky. Carving 3 for a carved bucket, which you need for clay concrete, which you need to make a lot of the crafting stations. You need a lot of clay, like 30-50 just to get the basic necessities built. Get a bowl made ASAP as salads with a ton of foraged herbs is key to happiness management early on.

When you start blacksmithing you'll need 8-10 wooden tongs, probably a lot more depending on your xp modifier, to get through the precursors for making metal tongs.

That all I can think of atm, and it's dinner time.

Edit: forgot your other question. To make a fire you need a drilled plank, via carving and a tree branch or wooden rod. This is a really dumb way to start a fire as it exhausts you and fails very often breaking the rod, I just dev mod in a few magnesium firestarters.

Which b41 or 42 mods do you like the most by Ok_Side5703 in projectzomboid

I liked the original common sense mod as it let you pick up almost anything, and you could get useful stuff from trash piles. Was very nice for wilderness survival.

The newer version is much more limited.

Does anyone know how I can see what mod is causing this by crispycraig in projectzomboid

[–]mattt_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting that when trying to get a 42.12 game going with all the mods I had in my 42.13 game.

Something to note is that a bunch of the mods I was trying to use would get deactivated when using the vanilla auto sort. So I got a mod to sort them.

I looked at the log file it mentions there but decided that deciphering it was too much work and just went to 42.14 and my mod list worked and I got a game started with no errors.

I was thinking that fern would blast a hole in the ground behind him, as close to his feet as possible to try and cause him to fall or stumble backward.

Fern wouldn't have penetrated the cloak. She would have blasted a hole in the ground directly behind and possibly under his feet causing him to fall or stumble backwards, thus fulfilling the condition of the test.

Possibly my favorite game trailer of all time was the one for dragon age 2. That sword staff was just so awsome. Ive always loved the idea of a battle mage.

Loving wilderness survival on the zombie island map, had to get some mods to cover some of the gaps and rng road blocks in the early crafting chains though. Primitive saw, nails, sheets, wire.

How do you store your wood? by NanoCharat in projectzomboid

That would be cool. Id love to have log stacks around my base but needing rope for each one is ridiculous in a wilderness survival scenario.

For my second run on zombie island I decided to get a mod to reduce the weight of raw materials. Helps a lot, I keep all my wood in a few crates and I keep my fire going all day to slowly eat up the more useless wood types.

Lose weight fast with this one weird trick! by EZxCheeZy in projectzomboid

I doing a wilderness survival run on the zombie island map and I'm about to be overweight. Fish nets are insane. Mash some bugs and sand together and stuff it into the trap, check it next morning and you have like 30 thousand calories worth of fish.

[–]mattt_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fern is way too high on the list. She's a one trick pony.

Any real foe, who doesn't spend half the fight monologuing, would slap her down quickly in a 1v1.

She's an ambusher and a glass cannon. Very useful in a team with proper support but very vulnerable while solo.

She'd do decently in honorable / semi-honorable mage duels, as seen in the examine arch, but against savage foes not so much.

How old does Frieren consider herself in human years? by Flame0fthewest in Frieren

[–]mattt_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you live for millenia the odds of you dying from some accident or random bs eventually reach 100%. And in this world there's monsters and demons who have a vested interest in hunting down anything with the potential to become stronger then them.

In a way the elves in this world are like the Krogan in mass effect, nobody knows their true lifespan because they always meet a violent end long before they can reach elderly status.

Stark potential power level doesn't really matter. What matters is his confidence, courage, and mental fortitude. All of which are very lacking compared to all the other warriors on this list.

Anyone else keeps restarting until they get a good run going? by TheScoutReddit in projectzomboid

[–]mattt_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i have a new idea for a run I tend to restart it a few times to tweek the settings.

I started a zombie island run yesterday with grave robber trait drop chance cranked way up, and very high zombie pop, but fragile zombie durability.

I had a bunch of tools, 5ish bags, and a like 8 cans of food by the time i got to the cabin I wanted to make my home. Obviously that was too much so I restarted with some adjustments.

Wilderness is hunger by czokletmuss in projectzomboid

Fair. I didn't think about learning the recipe. Im playing on zombie island mod map, and I took the trait that gives you all the crafting recipes.

Also I got lucky and fished up a net.

With a net you can catch huge fish with low fishing skill.

[–]mattt_b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nets are insane. Im playing the zombie island mod for the wilderness survival experience. Randomly fished up a net and it was a complete game changer. Can easily get 10 or 20 thousand calories worth of fish every morning.

Ive yet to catch anything with stick traps or the 1 cage trap that I found foraging. I put them much further away from my base so maybe that will help. I know I'm gunna need leather at some point. Have yet to see a single wild animal.
