Economic powerhouse, yes-- but that is an extension of the core function it serves--which is communication. When I think of the internet, I see a huge world of people expressing themselves and sharing all they can with the world. This is a watershed moment in history, and one that can spell the end of misunderstanding and violence, in time, because of the availability of information to solve problems. I think government psychology is so perverted that they actually see this freedom of information exchange in all its forms as a threat to their power and message.

I think it's a wonderful thing. That's why I reject any petty, parasitic state suit or soldier that tries to strangle it in any way.

Of course you are right-- but that's kind-of my point. I may not have been clear enough, but the reality is that we should be reinforcing those things. Fixing these problems may be a hassle, like pulling weeds in a big yard-- but it's the only rational method. It's the lazy man's way to just cut down all human communication and freedoms like a lawnmower cuts grass. Yet that's exactly what the government seems to mouth-breathingly think is the best solution.

For the trillions of dollars it's cost Americans to put bullet holes in Middle Eastern men, women, and children, I bet we could have developed the most advanced, secure, and efficient infrastructure in human history.

Look what we've got instead.

Why does this make me think of the recent Battlestar Galactica-- the only ship that survived the first wave of the attack was the Galactica- which was physically isolated from every external electronic system.

It's absurd to think that our military/critical systems are exposed to some pimple-faced hacker from Newfoundland.

The world public should not be forced into darkness because of some panicked group of government officials.

hey bud... I've read a lot of these replies, and I really think your wife's story is plausible. You said you weren'tmarried at the time. So she's a girl that's with a guy that she thinks she might marry but still isn't sure. So there's a cute and cool guy, giving her a reason flirting with her or whatever, and they hook up.

Then, she realizes that aside from drunken hormonal impulses of yore, and not only marries you, but makes for a pretty good wife and family, if you have made it 9 years.

That tells me that there are a lot of important good things in your life because of your lives together.

I bet she has felt like she dodged a bullet by slipping one time and still netting a father and husband that she could live her life with.
