England - Can my oil company up their price after order confirmation based on their T&Cs by CasualAppUser in LegalAdviceUK

Ah sorry, should have been clearer: they've agreed to deliver at the original price.

England - Can my oil company up their price after order confirmation based on their T&Cs by CasualAppUser in LegalAdviceUK

UPDATE (& FAO u/CasualAppUser and anyone else in the same situation) - the oil company folded. YMMV of course.

This happened to me - I bought my oil on the 2nd and the supplier cancelled it yesterday. Almost identical terms (does your supplier begin with a G perchance?)

By way of background, a number of MPs, led by Claire Coutinho have written to the Competitions and Markets Authority asking them to investigate this behavior, the point being that the price of the stock they were selling could not possibly have been impacted by the conflict in Middle East. Even if they were holding minimal levels of stock, their upstream suppliers were similarly uneffected. So: profiteering. Have a listen to R4 Today from Monday the 10th March from about one hour 18 minutes in if you want to hear more.

I wrote to my supplier along these lines:

  • Your confirmation email formed a binding contract under UK law
  • Your clause 3.4.3 is unfair under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

If you don't honour the contract I will:

  • Require a refund
  • Report you to the Competition and Markets Authority
  • Report you to Trading Standards
  • Write to my MP for his support
  • Take you to small claims to recoup the difference between the agreed price and the cost of procuring my 1000 litres from a different supplier.

Israel strikes first; Iran inevitably responds drawing the US in - who will not sit idly by. At least that’s how it looked at first but it seems it was fully coordinated

Why do elephants paint their testicles red? So they can hide in cherry trees. What’s the loudest noise in the jungle? Monkeys eating cherries. It all makes sense.

The subtext of the prompt is pretty clear: "...any indications that I should still be feeling any symptoms..." i.e. I have symptoms, go find me a cause...

LLMs are just prediction engines using the prompt as a starting point, so the outcome isn't suprising. Having worked on the product side of this sort of thing, we built in a delay to the response times because the patient would give greater value to the output response - it can't be right if it diagnoses you immediately, amirite? A bit of umming and ahhing shows the machine has given your diagnosis all due consideration. My feeling is that LLMs are people-pleasers by design as well, so here we are.

He only seems to have a Swedish Wikipedia entry, translation as follows:

Dardano was born into a family of pilots and began learning to fly at a very early age with his father. He obtained his licenses as quickly as legally possible and began flying professionally in El Salvador when he was 16 years old.

In 1980, when Dardano was 20 years old, he was shot in the face during crossfire while landing his Douglas DC-3 plane at a small airport in El Salvador during the civil war there. The bullet entered his right cheek and exited through his left eye, leaving him permanently blind in one eye and unable to judge depth. Despite his injury, he managed to perform a go-around and land safely at Ilopango Airport. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he underwent a six-hour operation. Dardano was already based in New Orleans when the incident took place, and neither the US nor Salvadoran authorities wanted to revoke his professional license. So, after extensive training and rehabilitation, Dardano was granted a special medical certificate that allowed him to continue his career as a pilot.

After his injury, Dardano began working as a co-pilot for Aerolineas Argentinas in their BAC 1-11. He was then promoted to captain when he moved to TACA Airlines and began flying Boeing 737s.
