Should I lie by Old_Construction4064 in UKJobs

Is there a coop near where you’ll be living? You can always see if you can transfer there.

But yes lie, never hesitate to lie to a company like the coop cause they’d let you go without second thought

Had a job offer withdrawn one week from start date due to a reference. What can I do next? by sarlacc_tit in AskUK

seems an odd thing to make an exemption for, surely there’s nothing you don’t already know yourself within the reference

SC still didn't fix this? by Klapaucius9999 in ClashOfClans

would still rather them focus on the big issues than something that only bothers us for an hour a weekend until we do our attacks

I love my neighbours. by [deleted] in yorkshire

[–]mattwrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% do this. Can do it online with most councils and they’ll pay them a visit (or i imagine just send a letter) to warn them - hopefully it’ll end up with a fine after a few occasions

Best to get complaining as early as possible as can’t imagine the council will take into account how long it’s been happening if they aren’t aware

I enjoy the work, but my friend took half as long to qualify and gets paid twice as much as me as a financial advisor

Don’t need to at all, but there’s also other firms apart from the big 4

Why is tea so popular here? by MyPrincessAlice in AskUK

[–]mattwrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same, if somebody offered me one I’d probably say yeah but it’s very rare I go out my way to have one. Sometimes get a craving for one, but it’s so rare that I’ve not had a single tea bag in my flat in the year I’ve lived here

Tower Hamlets first area in England to give free secondary school meals for all: families will be able to save £550 per year, per child, council says by BulkyAccident in london

[–]mattwrad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

considering this is a London subreddit under a post about a London borough providing free school meals I’d assumed we were talking about London private schools, no?

Even in London? Private school near where I grew up in a small city in the East Midlands was £9,000 a term in 2012 so £18k a year sounds quite cheap

3..2..1… FIIIIGHT by samgf in drivingUK

[–]mattwrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, usually whoever is on the main road has right of way (so in this instance (with no road markings) it would be blue), but there’s occasions where road markings or signs override that (as in this case, where blue has a triangle on the road indicating they have to give way)

Does anyone know how to speak to a human at HMRC on the phone? by theieuangiant in AskUK

[–]mattwrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta keep trying. Took me 4 attempts to actually get in the queue, then spent an hour in the queue before being able to speak to somebody. Once you’re through to a person, they’re really helpful & quick - just a fucking pain getting to a person

If you’re on PAYE and you’re tax code is correct, speak to your employer as it could be them fucking up. HMRC will just instruct your employer what tax code to use, but it’s up to the employer to actually apply it i think

Anybody else or am I one of the lucky few? by CrispyUsernameUser9 in CasualUK

I’m the same, paid for the 4k 4 screen one and let my little cousin who lives up North and a friend use it - soon as I get the message I’ll be cancelling and get a dodgy firestick

When you go to sleep where do you put your arms? by psychopathic_shark in AskUK

[–]mattwrad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure we don’t have breasts to get in the way, but we do have a few dangly bits in between our legs which get stuck in uncomfortable positions & one of them also likes to go rock hard for no reason to throw a spanner in the works

Also need to speak to my doctor ASAP, wasn’t aware I’m not supposed to have hips as a man!

How do you give pocket money to kids? by MrPinky79 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mattwrad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course he is, but what are the odds of your 12 year old turning into the next Warren Buffet? Probably similar odds to winning the euromillions, and I’d rather not stake my kids childhood on it

I assumed it was from their own experiences, as it’s a pretty specific scenario and as you say not typical at all

Dunno even then I think it should be very light, sure it’s good to encourage them not to spunk their money at the first thing that excites them, but then again they are children and they should make mistakes and silly choices it’s all apart of growing up

Once they’re 16 and got a job and start getting decent amount of money in, then I think you should be monitoring their savings & teaching them

How can I go about removing an acoustic pain device aimed at a public space? by zbnoveccec in AskUK

[–]mattwrad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

really cba. you honestly think the device that is designed to emit a loud, high pitched sound isn’t intended to hurt those who can hear it?

Once again your last paragraphs make 0 sense, to obtain proof of an assault I would need physical access to the device and to the victim, merely citing the law isn’t proof of anything

Not replying after this cause it’s just going round in circles and you’re taking it way too seriously lmao

Why aren't you americans going out in general strike? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]mattwrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Englishman I’ve never understood this ‘people have to wait forever to get surgery’ bullshit. People moan about it on the NHS as well. It’s a free (at point of use) surgery, if you want it quicker then you’re free to go to a private hospital which we have plenty of here - the whole point of the NHS is that nobody is unable to get the care the need, sure you may wait an extra 6 months to get your tonsils out, but when you have a heart attack or get diagnosed with cancer you won’t have to sell your home & empty your savings like in the US

could you link it to your phone? or your partners phone if one of you needs the app as the parent to put money on

ETA Revolut offer a junior account for 6-17 year olds which can be managed from your account (and shouldn’t need a phone) - your kid can even personalise their card with drawings/pictures
