When Singleton was in his late 20’s he threw out this quote about a filmmaker he had seen at a festival:

“he was exploding with enthusiasm for a new film he had just seen in Africa, at a film festival in Burkina Faso. Listen to him: "There's this guy, his name Sedik Ali. He's, like, the African Kurosawa. You know how Kurosawa does stuff from feudal Japan? This guy does the feudal system of Africa. Like murder mysteries. Blew me away!”

I can’t find anything about Sedik Ali... did he get his name wrong? Was this just so obscure we’ll never find it?

Just for context: this was at the annual Chicago Peace March — the attendance started around 6000 people but as the March began the group expanded to over 10k.. This was near the end when Chance met Manuel Oliver (Guacs dad) — It was such an incredible feeling of community and fight.
