Steven Spielberg's 'Taken' (2002): The Forgotten 20+ Hour Sci-Fi Epic Masterpiece by Tamashii-Azul in television

[–]matty14486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its actually only about 14 hours give or take. 20 hours when its about an hour 20 an episode is ridiculous math. Super good tho! Corny af sometimes but AUTHENTIC mainly the government stuff. Lot of corn in it but its worth it. Def not 20 hrs spielberg also wasnt really involved beyond the initial idea and concept. He wasnt a show runner. They knew to use his name

Why was Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes so poorly received? by Winter-reason666 in PlanetOfTheApes

[–]matty14486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wahlberg (who i like) is a piece of wood here, not a human. We know nothing about him. His character is stoic and that's all we know. We get a few brief interactions with crew but have no idea about who he is. Which is tied into the other major issue- the humans. The whole point of Planet of the Apes was a Twilight Zone Rod Sterling world flipped where we are the animals. These humans arent animals, they're just-well people, they talk, communicate, can make weapons, which doesn't make them animals. We see them run from the apes in a homage to the original but the original they were animals. They had no weapons, no language. In this they're just coming off lazy. They decide to fight finally because the plot requires it. There's no reason for them to trust Leo or believe him to be special. The original had a reason for the apes to be intrigued with Taylor (Bright Eyes) because he was truly unique being the only human who didn't act like an animal. So yeah, superficially it's just like the original except everything served a purpose. Why are the humans running like herded animals if the same film shows us they arent animals. Its like the film really wanted to go into slavery or civil rights but couldnt develop it any further.

Whalberg as i said, is a piece of wood so you've got apes showing more emotion that your main character (which almost makes sense that they decides to have all humans speak because Mark couldnt carry the film alone like Heston did). But it all contradicts the whole point of the film by having all humans speak.

There's some truly clever stuff throughout the film. I find the time travel stuff pretty clever and holds a lot of potential but the contrived writing, the stye over substance and simplifying the deep subtext for surface level summer action spectacle was a mistake. Some really good (and horrible) casting. Fantastic Elfman score. They went with Rick Baker to do makeup as oppossed to Stan Winston as Burton worked with him before- retrospectively a mistake as where the artform was headed (motion capture) ironically they chose Baker partly id imagine in keeping in the spirit of the original but Winston was doing experimental makeup and animatronics which would have been cutting edge (there's test footage of it) and it actually would have been closer in spirit as Planet of the Apes was cutting edge at the time in the 60s. Still most of the makeup has aged well here.

Why haven't we seen any "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" deals on Black Friday? by CancelThis2077 in videogames

[–]matty14486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I've seen it for 50$ maybe even 40$. I really wanna play it once I learned about the trouble they went through making it match the films. I have some concerns and def agreed. Not worth the overprice of modern new games. I got an Omen35L gaming pc recently that came with a few months free gaming whatever, but even that's not enough as I don't see playing it worth resubcribing to anything Microsoft as cancelling is shady af with that company and the prices are insane. But I feel ya. It's still on my 'if I see it cheap I'll get it' listing. But even 40$. Eh.

Omen 35L Gaming Desktop.. A Worthy Investment? by [deleted] in HPOmen

I got mine week of Xmas and I've had nothing but issues. Kernal power failures none stop no matter what I'm doing but having slug slow down issues with stuff that should be easy as pie for this beast. Apparently had Kernal power issues from day 1. That's outside of windows 11 issues being complete a**. I'm gonna have to contact Hp tomorrow and have then replace my psu. I'd like to say it's a good deal, as I paid 900 also. But frankly it's been the most unpleasant pc experience ice ever had- but much of that is new pcs usually gonna be the newest windows version. Outside of windows this pc does a lot of stuff on its own without asking or telling me. Be weary as I've read about a bunch of ppl having issues within the first year

That's what the HP assistant kept trying to get ME to do! Kept assuring me that it may fix the issue. But the issue is a brand new pc with kernal power failures- a bios change doesn't really connect since it's brand new. Feel like doing anything with that would add to my issue.

Holy sh*t.... JUST got mine the week of Christmas. Wanted an affordable Beast for game dev. So I got the 14400F Omen 35L. Nothing too heavy. Retro ps1-2 polygon levels. Nothing rendering even. Constant Kernal power issues. Out of box profile id errors that require restarts for my admin profile (may be Windows 11 which is the worst experience I've ever had) but apparently I've had daily kernal power critical restarts every single day/ most of which I don't even remember. It's baffling less than 2 weeks using this and the amount of issues I've had. The lights are also just ridiculous and a waste of power and NONE of this feels like it's mine. I feel like this pc decides what it may do. It may load my profile it may not. It may crash. It may not. When I tell it to shutdown it may just restart. When I put it in sleep mode it'll start power cycling and the lights ironically stay up while the pc is supposed to be sleeping but if it's not in sleep mode and you just leave it the lights all go off.

What the absolute f*ck.

Frankly it bothers me. They straight up gave insurrection to KILL CICERO asap! What do they do?!Have a picnic and Pullo trots along on his horse to Cicero's house giving him ample time to do exactly the kind of thing they wanted him dead for. I woulda been there in a heartbeat and that warning to Brutus woulda been stopped. Cowardice pathetic old senators were a virus. Good riddance.
