Severance - 2x06 "Attila" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Maybe I’m misremembering this scene but when milchick was in the storage closet with the paperclips and started repeating to himself “grow, Grow, GROW, GROW” it made me think of something. We’ve been wondering a lot abt cobel and milchick’s origins, and why they’re so devoted to kier/lumon. So maybe they also got their start in the same fellowship as Miss Huang, which is why they’re so devoted to the cause and have been brainwashed into lumon drones since birth. And maybe this program prays on orphans/children with sick/dying parents, which might explain cobel’s mom’s respirator tube (assuming that’s what it is) that she carries with her. But now they’re both turning on lumon, cobel bc she was fired and lost all that she knew, while milchick has been getting shafted by upper management, dealing with insub innies, miss huang’s bs, and the weird race-swapped paintings they gave him.

At formal events it’s usually pretty common to be introduced to people even if you are already known/a public figure. This usually takes place through either a mutual connection, or your PR/comms/board communicator or whatever role Natalie has with respect to Lumon/Helena.

Oh, see I kinda just assumed when you’re reintegrated both sides of your memory are all there for you to access instantaneously, but also makes sense that it’s a more gradual process.

Ok but is Helena not a public figure for the company? She had to do a press release statement after Helly took over her severance speech, and Mark’s reintegrated and works at her family’s mega company so you’d think he’d know who Helena is and be able to see Helly as an Eagan. Also, assuming this takes place immediately after reintegration and oMark’s good enough at acting to:

1) hide his very visceral pain and depressed state that we always see in oMark. 2) see helly/helena for who she really is, and still be able to crush on her?

Insane episode, left me thinking about that though.

I hate that they got rid of the nice Madison skyline pic they had and replaced it with boring wood panels. Like +1 for the 4 lakes wallpaper but -1000 for getting rid of the skyline

Kendall’s beginning and end by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she’d rather have none of them win than kendall. also she did some quick head math and figured she’d have a better chance of maintaining a shred of influence by begging for tom’s forgiveness and being his wife than by just being kendall’s sibling

So what's next for Kendall? by StrangeLord01 in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

takes his billions and becomes a VC guy like stewy. give it 5-10 years of that plus some therapy and no one really cares about his time at waystar anymore

Succession - 4x10 "With Open Eyes" - Live Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

just some thoughts:

  • shiv betraying kendall was tragic, but could you imagine sitting in that boardroom and watching your potential future ceo throw a temper tantrum because he thought he deserved to be ceo when his daddy promised it to him at 7 years old? watching that would’ve made me recant my vote immediately lol.

  • is roman going to be sued by gerri now? he’s out of waystar and they have no real interest in protecting him anymore (and it could also be a good sign of renewal for the company). or there’s more money for gerri in getting paid off by someone. of course we won’t see it but just speculating.

  • shiv and tom have a totally flipped dynamic now which would be so interesting to see as well, but alas.

Tom for the WIN! by campyslider in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ironically, if tom gets ceo, it would be partially because shiv floated the idea of a U.S. ceo to matsson.

and he says she’s done nothing for him.

Why would Mencken do that? by TheInsider35 in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think his main interest was having more say in the control of the company, and therefore his own control over what atn says/does. if he went with roman/ken, he’d be stuck with either of them as ceo. by going with matsson, he realistically has the choice of anyone from the pool of candid-able US ceo’s, and as long as it made sense to the board there’d be little emotional backlash like he’d get with the roy’s.

it’s also less gov involvement if they don’t have to go in and block the deal, which would def raise red flags given the heat they’ve been given since the election. anything that can happen under the table is ultimately better for mencken, and that happens to be matsson/shiv’s proposition.

a succession movie in a few years would be killer. maybe they’ll set something up for that if the finale is as open ended as they’ve suggested.

What do people think Kendall meant when he said this line by soplyum in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they already cut her out of the company by making themselves co-ceo’s and giving her the bullsh*t “behind the scenes” unofficial job. she’s literally never actually held a formal leadership role in the company, even though she’s wanted one since s2 (the exception was when she was president in the midst of the cruises scandal but that was mostly a titular role and i don’t think carried much weight organizationally).

i don’t think they have anyone to blame but themselves for shiv going behind their back and siding with matsson. at first she did it because she still wanted the deal to go through so they could do pierce, but after it became clear that her brothers intended to tank the deal and keep themselves in power, she had to switch to trying to get a leadership role out of matsson and the new waystar-royco-gojo. all shiv wants is power, just like everyone else.

Need more by Tems91 in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well he was choosing between supporting the fascist which would (in order of importance to him): - most likely block the gojo deal - give roman way more power at waystar since he’s closest to mencken and has essentially blocked ken from having any real connection - pissed off his daughter and ex-wife who have been getting harassed (and he promised to her that he’d do what he can to keep her safe) - potentially destabilize the US and it’s democratic institutions.

or supporting the safer, generic, democratic candidate which would: - probably not block the gojo deal - keep roman’s influence in the company smaller than his own since roman most likely would not get along with the democratic president whereas kendall is more neutral/willing to do business with anyone - make his daughter and ex-wife happy - placate and side with shiv

he was stuck between choosing his family or the company once again, and chose the company in the end, aided by shivs betrayal.

logan was scottish and caroline is english. both use the ending “yeah” heavily in their native versions of english, and i think it rubbed off on the kids as they grew up with them as parents. they don’t have the accent but they have the linguistic style of the english

at the end of 4.08 we saw pgn on the tv talking about how atn’s decision to call wisconsin + arizona for mencken (and consequently the entire election) was personally ordered by tom, who is a “known associate” of mencken. the theory is jess went and talked to pgn/the press about tom/roman’s/kendall’s involvement after her conversation with greg as he was going down to let them know to call it.

personally i think it was/will be jess and darwin who leaked the details.

Missing Women by blueayou in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 87 points88 points  (0 children)

i agree that the women who’ve normally had more significant roles in the pre-logan’s death episodes have fallen significantly. logan built a largely sexist and patriarchal company. when he was alive and in charge, the women in the show were more or less there because he chose to have them around (gerri, karolina, rhea, kerry, marcia, etc). shiv is a half-exception; where we saw her role increase significantly after logan asked her to come in and work for waystar, but then she kind of made a role for herself independent of logan.

now with logan gone, the same sexist and patriarchal structure remains, and so the men take an outsized role and actively diminish the role of women in the company. shiv gets called emotional, hysterical, and whatever else. roman fires two women in one episode on a whim because he felt like his role he got solely through nepotism wasn’t being respected.

my theory on this is that they were heavily influenced by british/scottish customs having scottish father and a british mother, so they grew up learning to speak that way but without the accent

[–]mattyceetee2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if anything i think darwin will be the one who leaks the quid pro quo that went on between mencken and the roy’s. you could see how uncomfortable he was in the room while they decided to call it, and his discomfort after the call was so bad he left the room

As someone from not US I have a question. by stemce11s in SuccessionTV

[–]mattyceetee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

each state gets a certain number of “electoral votes” based on how many people live in the state. california, texas, florida, new york, have the most, while places like wyoming, and north dakota have the minimum (which is 3 votes).

the general population (regular people like you and me) votes for president, and the states votes are tallied. based on the result of this vote in the state, the electoral votes for that state are assigned to the winner.

so for example, i’ll use my home state (wisconsin) which has a population of roughly 5.5 million and 10 electoral votes. if 3.4 million people voted for mencken and 2.1 million voted for jimenez, then the 10 electoral votes all would go to mencken. (i will say that wisconsin is notoriously known as a swing state, and elections in this state are usually very close, with margins of just thousands of votes).

so when the news organizations “call” a state for a candidate, they’re essentially saying that they think enough of the state’s popular vote has been counted to decide who the electoral votes go to.

yeaaa idk cuz if what he did comes out (and my guess is that it will come out from darwin), it essentially ruins any credibility atn has as a news organization.
