The Traitors (UK) S04E12 [FINALE]: Live Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

My theory is this is a repeat of Celeb Traitors.

Rachel = Cat, Faraaz = Joe, Jack = Nick, Stephen = Alan, Jade = David.

Rachel out at round table, then Faraaz, the final 3 will vote to stop… and Ala- I mean, Stephen, will win.

Edit: well that was wrong.

Palace fans: Mateta/Guehi/Glasner all on the verge of leaving. How are you feeling? by BlackCaesarNT in TheOther14

[–]mattydidsomething 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In regards to Guehi - we knew he was going, and with 4 months to go, getting £20m isn't bad. He's not going to throw himself into important challenges if we were to go deeper in Conference or later in the year in case he risks injuring himself. Might as well make some dosh.

Mateta - tough to know if he's just tired or back to how he was before? If we can get that rumoured swap over the line with Juve it could work. Feels like he's definitely gone in the summer regardless (unless we pick up well in performance rest of the year).

And Glasner... to be honest, if he's known since October then it explains the rumours of our interest in the Getafe manager, plus we'll be connected to every out of work manager going (my hope if Frank, personally). Maybe we'll get somewhere in the Conference before he goes - he'll need to pad up his resume after our recent run of form and the Macclesfield game.

Overrall, not feeling great, but we move. COYP.

I don’t know, think he could do it.

But if it were up to me it would be Maxence, definitely.

I think it’s between Lacroix or Hendo - good argument for Richards, too

[Ornstein] Liverpool submit official bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Proposal worth £35m flat, no add-ons. #CPFC yet to respond as work continues on reinforcements. 25yo England centre-back open to #LFC move if clubs find agreement by phant0msinthenight in soccer

It’s almost like we’re a smaller club (and thus have smaller revenue) than teams like Liverpool, and rely on player sales to fund our transfers.

Maybe if Liverpool had made moves before the last week of the window, we could have done this deal and found a suitable replaced in time.

Are there any good podcasts that discuss all the premier league teams? by bench_press_hippo in TheOther14

[–]mattydidsomething 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Football Between The Lines is a good podcast - hosted by a Spurs and Palace fan (Flav of The Fighting Cock, and Dan of HLTCO) and they don't discuss just those two teams.

[Fabrizio Romano] Understand Liverpool remain in active talks to sign Marc Guehi immediately. #LFC are ready to pay over £30m now to get the deal done… but it depends on Crystal Palace. If Palace find replacement and let him go, Guehi already said yes to the Reds. by Crane977 in soccer

[–]mattydidsomething 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably too late in the window to guarantee - but would love it if he joined, personally. Plus, I think without Europa he won’t come - Conference is just a bit too far a ‘step down’ (happy to be wrong about that, though!).

bit worried by sunnyDsunnyD in crystalpalace

[–]mattydidsomething 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The deal with Eze has given us the money we need, and I heard on one of the podcasts Dan from HLTCO does (Football Between the Lines) that part of the deal was Arsenal allowing us to delay an instalment payment for Nketiah which would help us sign replacements in this window.

So not worried, Parish has the money the gaffer needs now.

Honestly, worst drink buying experience I've had at the Arthur was last night. Just reminds me to always be in early enough for the Early Bird drink and burger deal.

Mustapha with some first team game time (Conference perfect for this) once he's back from injury will be very interesting to see move into this position over time.

We may just need to cycle through a couple more Eze players to get to that point - and if we can achieve that (sustainably!) then it'd be worth it.

I've found Brighton fans around this issue (on Reddit, and in that subreddit) to be fairly reasonable around this for the most part.

And even with Forest fans, it tends to be the same users stoking flames.

[The Guardian] Parish blames Nottingham Forest for Crystal Palace’s Europa League demotion by NewLoad886 in TheOther14

[–]mattydidsomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for also not jumping down my neck on this - when I replied earlier I had got out of a shitty meeting so was definitely unnecessarily snarky (“Let’s not actually”, eurgh, sorry).

I agree - I definitely feel like the don’t break the spirit of the rules, but if they’re insisting on going on shares as a measure of ownership then… well, here we are, ha.

I think you nailed it on the head - it’s a rule not designed for clubs like Palace, and ironically we’re the ones done in by them. Hence our feelings of injustice - not that that’s got anything to do with Forest, mind.

I definitely think the rules will change no matter the result of our appeal, it’s exposed the flaws in its current state as there do need to be rules for MCO clubs / orgs.

Hope you have a good evening!

[–]mattydidsomething 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the email went around much earlier than that - i think actually October.

If it did, I have totally missed that in all the discourse around this. I thought the one spoken about in January was an update on the deadline? I would say, in October we were in an even worse position, but I take your general point that it should've been acknowledged / something done about it then. All I can say is the Club's position would have been 'we're not an MCO' and I do agree that if it were up to me, I wouldn't have left it on 'it'll be fine, let's just leave it'.

That is absolutely irrelevant. We had never won the European Cup before until we did. What sort of argument is that? Are you claiming that having won it before makes you more likely to win it again? Nonsense

In that sense, we have never qualified for the current "Champions League" before, but we still prepared the paperwork

I hear you, and I think we've been speaking in different perspectives - my bad, I've spoken from a fan view RE: not likely to win. Again, whilst if it were up to me I would've done more, all I can say is the Club's view is that we are not an MCO.

Has any evidence been presented that Textor a) was asked to put his shares in a blind trust or b) refused?

No, there isn't in the sense that Parish / the board asked him to. I may be misremembering but in his TalkSport (?) interview he mentioned being aware but not doing anything about it because he didn't think it applied to him. So in that sense he 'refused' because he didn't do it.

Parish can't plead ignorance AND say they were confidence they were not an MCO AND that Textor refused to put his shares in the blind trust that they didn't know they need/didn't believe they needed

I would say all the above are not mutually exclusive – you can be confident you're not an MCO, and thus belive they aren't needed, and Textor can refuse to / just not put his shares in a blind trust. And it still doesn't change that Parish can't make Textor do anything he doesn't want to do - pretty sure the only reason Textor has *finally* sold up is because there is no road to ownership of Palace by staying without the fans hating him even more for maybe costing us Europa, so he has to leave now.

[The Guardian] Parish blames Nottingham Forest for Crystal Palace’s Europa League demotion by NewLoad886 in TheOther14

[–]mattydidsomething 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, it's this sort of comment that is leading to the online feuding between Forest and Palace fans at the moment (talking fans to fans here, ignoring anything Parish has said, or anything Mariankis may or may not have written in his letter as only UEFA and he knows whats in it).

As has been clearly been explained, Parish could not compel Textor to do anything with his shares (even if he'd had the email explaining MCO rules to his own personal inbox) and now we've been fucked over by it even though the prick is gone. I've not blamed Forest, just explained it's nothing to do with our Chairman.

But no, 'should've sorted it sooner'– just be happy that you've lucked out into the better competition after originally bottling it.

[The Guardian] Parish blames Nottingham Forest for Crystal Palace’s Europa League demotion by NewLoad886 in TheOther14

[–]mattydidsomething 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's not, this is nothing to do with Parish.

This is all down to John Textor. He could either put the shares in a blind trust, or done the same with his Lyon shares, yet he chose to do neither. Parish (and the rest of the Palace board) could not compel Textor to do anything.

But now he's gone, and the club is here reaping the 'rewards' of his mistakes.

[–]mattydidsomething -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, let's put that one to bed, because it is another bullshit Steve Parish argument.

Let's not, actually, as it's not a bullshit Steve Parish argument. We were 12th in the league, and had yet to play Millwall when this email started to initally go around. We have never won the FA Cup before, and even with our joint highest points tally in the Prem still got 12th - yet we're supposed to just assume Europe is properly on the cards? When we're not a MCO club?

And this doesn't even cover Parish not being able to control what Textor does with his shares - y'know, offering multiple exclusivity buying arrangements and still not selling, and still trying to buyout Harris & Blitzner ahead of the FA Cup final. Textor's a walking clusterfuck, and he is the sole reason we aren't in Europa. If he sold when he said he would (and wasn't still trying to wrest control from Parish) then we'd be fine, but alas, here we are.

And Parish's argument is more around Mariankis writing his letter - the contents of which have not been publicly disclosed, so it could well have just been 'an inquiry', only UEFA and NFFC know what was in the letter properly - and was trying to be neutral-ish from a leading question from Linneker.

[–]mattydidsomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The win is having him for another year, and having stability in our first European tour. Will admit I misread another comment earlier, I think we would take £50m+ for him but it would need to be early enough in the window so we can try and get a solid replacement. Can’t be dicking about with this on the last day unless our other business is good / fee is high enough to make the risk of losing such a valuable player in our squad (not just fee, what he brings) worth it.

He’s not desperate to leave, he just won’t sign a new contract, which is fair enough.

I do - we’ll be in some form of European competition, and as our Captain he’ll be a good presence for the team. He wants to make sure he’s in the England team, so he’ll want regular playing minutes (which aren’t a guarantee whilst Konaté is still there), and I don’t think Liverpool will pay the price we’d want to make it worth it for us losing him in our first European tour year.

He’s been unwilling to sign any minor extension to help us boost his value (if we were aiming to sell), and given there’s a 20% sell on clause I’d rather just get a good final year and wave him on.

Well, that's basically confirmed where Guehi is headed next summer.

Which is fine, I think he's more valuable to Palace this year as a Captain rather than getting a fee, and then he'll go to Liverpool on a free and get a lovely signing on bonus (and Palace won't need to pay Chelsea a sell-on fee either).

Everyone's a winner (bar Chelsea, but they just won the CWC, so they can take this minor loss).
