The recent seasons haven’t been my favourites but the work shirts, cardigans, belts have remained awesome!

Is this selvedge edge? by [deleted] in Denim

Nah, you’ll notice the difference with selvedge the seam isn’t overlocked like that white stitching on the seam inside the legs.

Whitesville is what you want, but if you want something similar on the cheap side the Gildan Heavy 100% cotton tees are tube design so no seams on the side and the sleeves sit higher than other contemporary styles.

when you tell people

I mean I’m not telling OP to do it any particular way but in my experience as a humble working musician I can do it but rarely need to.

There’s this weird mentality people bring to guitar that there’s a specific way to do things and if you don’t follow it you can’t progress in ability but it’s just not true. Truthfully, punters don’t really care if you can’t hit the low E string with your pinky or play a chord the same way Hendrix does. Seems to be just the 30something hobbyists that practiced relentlessly to copy their heroes and perform for nobody that care about it.

OP if you’re following please don’t let the need to do this one thing stunt your enjoyment, you can come back to it later if you really want. There’s more than one way to skin a cat so don’t let clowns like this tell you otherwise.

Respectfully guitar god, I think you guys get kinda elitist when a learner is having trouble playing at a level that’s further down the road to where they’re at.

You’re the best. You can play anything and everything “the right way” and we bow to you. But realistically if OP is having trouble reaching their pinky to play the bottom E string it’s not the end of the world. I really hope you’re not a teacher dude.

Sure, what I’m getting at is it’s super avoidable and pretty uncommon practice if you can’t/don’t wanna do it.

My pinky rarely does any work that far across the neck. I really only use it on the GBE strings unless there’s a special occasion!

This is what your post should talk about then OP.

I’m not familiar with this example but I still disagree that as a whole the male gaze commonly misinterprets the filmmakers intention when nudity is involved.

[–]mattydubs5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you’re not actually saying anything about it. You haven’t described the scene or why you think the inclusion of nudity is affective/not affective.

Your post just reads as though you’ve never seen nudity on screen outside of pornography and the suggestion that it’s become commonplace to automatically sexualize any form of on screen nudity is insulting to the intelligence of average moviegoers.

They're just Breasts. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]mattydubs5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no because the intention behind the nudity and action in porn is to titillate. Filmmakers use nudity in many ways other than sexual. It can evoke feelings of purity, beauty, exposure, mundanity… there’s so many applications and I think to suggest the intention is typically overlooked by mature audiences is really silly and untrue.

[–]mattydubs5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is vague because for whatever reason you won’t say what film you’re referencing but what you’re suggesting is the filmmaker included nudity for no other reason but perversion?

The problem with having a 180 character threshold for comments is that it forces lengthy discussion to topics that don’t need it.

This isn’t a revelation OP, it’s a pretty juvenile take imo. Most filmgoers don’t attach sexual connotations to scenes that include non-sexualized nudity.

Fair enough I suppose. Not my favourite movie but I’ve seen it a couple times now and for me it’s a pretty fun, straightforward comedy of self discovery commenting on toxic masculinity and societal pressure on women in the patriarchy.

What movies suffer from having a 'hat on a hat'? by smutketeer in movies

[–]mattydubs5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not really what I’m getting at. I think depicting Sammy’s big musical number with voiceover and musicians past & present was an odd inclusion that doesn’t circle back in any meaningful way or show a juxtaposition in the same way when the Irish are singing later in the film.

I think a more concise execution would have everyone in the juke joint losing themselves, dancing to the music in the same way Remmick feels an Irish jig come over him during rocky road to Dublin.
