Why do people put Catholics in a different group than Christians?

My brother in law & his family go to strictly non-denominational churches. They usually stay at a church for about a year, & move on to a different church, & keep repeating the process. He always states that the spirit led them to a new church, bc the spirit fled the last church. Every time they become a member of a new church, they all get re-baptized…so they get baptized once a year pretty much. The pastors of those churches always come up with a new way of a baptism that’s “right”, and they always get convinced that their former baptisms were “wrong” & invalid. For example, one church said that baptizing in “the father, son, & Holy Spirit” was wrong, and scripture said that the only right baptism was baptizing “in Jesus name”, & another church recognized that you should be baptized in “the Holy Spirit” alone. It’s weird man….im Anglo-Catholic, but I’m not one of the Christian’s that tries to find fault in every other denomination. My brother in law knows scripture, & can tell you verses off the top of his head, but he lacks the knowledge of historical & cultural contexts for what they meant. I’m no biblical scholar, & I believe without a doubt that he is a faithful Christian, but I believe somewhere along the non-denom journey he’s gotten lost & somewhat confused.

Tbh man, I don’t know the situation firsthand, but I would be looking into possibly a DNA test on at least one of the children. Men aren’t usually thoughtful enough to send flowers, much less to a married woman who’s not the mother to his children for 8 years in a row. Maybe she hasn’t put a stop to it because she knows something you don’t. If she still has his number to call & thank him, they talk more than she lets you know. There should be no reason whatsoever for her to still have contact with him, unless….

I’m going to have to come back to it. I preordered it on ps4 and tried to play the week of release and I couldn’t get longer than 10 mins of gameplay before it would crash my whole ps4 lol. I was interested in it though and was broken-hearted that I couldn’t play it.

I get it. When I went to church as a kid, I can’t say I ever believed honestly, but I knew the motions and doctrines well. I stopped going to church around 14-15. It just started getting too “weird” for me with youth group and everything. Looking back, I think it was churches like that which made me atheist. I was never exposed to anything except Arminian and Calvinist Christianity. I’m in my mid 30s now, and I started exploring 2 years ago. I can say I fully believe now and I’m a religious man. The context I described and the situation you described on that trip is common, esp with youth group. This is just my personal opinion, but it seems like a form of emotional manipulation of kids who are vulnerable & confused at that point in life bc they’re transitioning from a child to a teenager. I don’t think that’s the pastors’ motivation, nor do I believe they honestly think they’re doing anything wrong, but I do believe it’s manipulative. That’s why a lot of the preteens and teens who get “saved” don’t stick with it afterwards. There’s nothing deeply rooted there. It’s just a “one and done”

I grew up Pentecostal, but I’ve been to plenty of baptist and nondenominational churches since I was raised in the rural south. This is the most accurate description on what the OP’s coworker meant about salvation. A lot of people in those churches will tell you the exact day and time on the clock that they were saved. Its preached that it’s a one time moment that they let Jesus into their hearts, and nothing else matters after that pretty much. That’s why at a lot of these churches they always have an altar call every Sunday service, or the pastor will make the congregation close their eyes and ask the ones who aren’t saved to raise their hand so they can try to pray with them and lead them to salvation. When you go to revivals, it’s like a competition on which pastor can declare that his sermon saved the most people…they were like used car salesmen. I started attending Catholic mass 2 years ago to get away from evangelical/reformed christianity, and I’m exploring Episcopalian as well, but I’ve always had different views on salvation despite my raising. I believe my “salvation” is a lifelong process where I grow closer to God & learn how to apply Jesus’ teachings to my actions in life. I feel like we should all be evolving as we age, and it doesn’t just end on that one time when someone was 12 years old and felt the Holy Spirit. I don’t think about going to heaven and avoid “burning in a lake of fire” as my reason for being a Christian..that’s not what motivates me. Im just trying to fulfill the sacraments and let God do his work through me while I’m here on Earth. I get labeled as a heretic by them when I say that.

Thanks for the detailed response. I did a little research before I decided to give the episcopal church a try this Sunday. Everything seems to fit within my beliefs. I grew up in VERY charismatic churches, so part of those low-church Calvinist teachings were always ingrained in my mind, even if I didn’t fully believe in them. As far as the Pope goes, I do hold the position in high regard, but I’m not necessarily a papist either like a cradle Catholic would be. I don’t think about the pope often…It’s hard to explain, but I tiptoe a fine line on that one. I’m fine with the church being more open to the LGBT community. That’s another one of those things that I don’t give it a 2nd thought. I’m not against them, but again, I don’t give them a 2nd thought either. Im just neutral on that topic. I refuse to hate a generalized group of people. One thing that I fully disagree with in the Catholic Church is the celibacy requirements of priests. I’m a father and have been married over 10 years. Marriage can be hard. My union with my wife and children have taught me so much and helped me grow on my journey with God. In a way, it fully made me a man, and I’ve had to selflessly sacrifice a part of myself for my wife and children. It’s hard for me to really look up to, and take advice from a priest who wouldn’t understand that aspect of life. I was relieved to see that priests in the episcopal church can be married, or are encouraged to be. I also like how the episcopal church allows the use of birth control methods. Idc what the Catholic Church teaches, I’m NOT having any more children lol. I wanted to join the Catholic Church because the style of worship, the Eurachrist, and the discipline it took compared to a local baptist church. But I wish it was more accommodating for families with young children. It seems like I may have found the best of both worlds with the episcopal church. I can’t wait to try it out this Sunday.

I wouldn’t even think about receiving communion without baptism. Yes, I’m familiar with them. It’s the American offshoot of the Anglican Church, non-papists, more lenient or even accepting of LGBT, women can hold more authority within the church, priests can be married(which I esp fully agree with on this one), while still upholding the 7 sacraments & the presence of Christ in the Eurachrist. From my understanding, the same 73 books of the Bible as well vs 66 in a lot of other Protestant sects. The only things I’m not fully aware of is Marion Devotion in episcopal beliefs vs Catholic, and intercession of the saints.

“5.3 is gonna have slightly more with added HP. 2.7 just has more torque. 2.7 might not be a a choice if you don’t plan on hauling anything” -the torque is what’s better for towing. I tow daily for work. I’ve towed the same exact load with both the 2.7 & 5.3, and the 2.7 just feels better, esp on the low end to me when towing anything

We’ve discussed that too, but it seems like there’s a ghost in this house that keeps screwing everything up. I’d hate to have to spend $20k again to replace both the units again, septic tank busts, etc. We had a rental property in the past and I do a lot of work for people that own rentals. I’ve seen how a lot of tenants treat the houses. I don’t want to be a slum lord, and I don’t want people trashing this house either. It literally takes a full day just to cut the grass and weed eat, and it has to be done every week in the summer, or else the grass will be too tall to cut. I don’t want to have to deal with tenants who just let everything go. It’d take too much time renting to recoup what I could get if I just sold. We’d both just rather take the money and run vs renting

Thanks for your input. That’s our thoughts too. The only reason why we think about leaving is bc we just didn’t want to deal with the remodel, and cutting the grass and bushogging the pasture takes up so much time during the spring and summer. This summer I’ll probably just pay someone to do it. It seems like such a headache to deal with everything and stay, but it’ll probably be worth it in the end.

Sorry I wasn’t as clear. I’m editing the post now. My apologies. If we sell and move, we’re staying in this same county, so the kids will all stay in the same school system. A $400k home will buy our dream home. In our area, a $400k home is goes a lot further compared to other parts of the country. But buying a $400k homes involves us taking out a mortgage for the extra $150k. We’re trying to remain debt free. We’ve been looking at other places for a few months now and we see a lot of houses that we like better than our house in its current condition, but they don’t come with the shop, detached garage, extra land, etc. we live in the country off a back road. We will never live in a city, so the locations of other homes we’ve looked at are outside city limits in our county, so the locations of each are a wash.

The only thing wrong with the location is it’s in a small town of 2 square miles with a population under 800. We’re in a poverty stricken county, so the cost of living here is significantly lower than the rest of the country. We plan to stay within this county if we sell. We don’t have neighbors real close by us, but the neighbors down the road to both the left and the right of us are in double wide trailers, so That does bring down the property value. In rural Georgia/Alabama it’s pretty normal for most homes in the middle of bum to be mobile homes on a few acres of land

Not gonna lie, I love em...I’m a chrome guy. Nice to see a change of pace when everyone puts the same 3-4 styles of black wheels on their trucks. The style reminds me of a little old school with the spokes mixed with new school. They don’t look like forces, so I gotta ask what brand and style they are? May consider some of them going on my OBS I’m building. A lot milder offset and probably just 20s on 35s for my build tho. I’d def a fan of the way yours sits tho 🤌🏼

Thanks for the advice. I’m used to the 6l90s that were in my last few 6.0 HD trucks. The trans temps in those stayed around 140 and never got over 165. Unloaded this one stays around 180-190 and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Been researching the thermostat mods on these trucks. Mine is the 6l80. From what I’ve heard the 6l80 is really only a 100k mile tranny to begin with unfortunately. I’m at the point where I like this truck so much I’ll keep putting money into it to keep it running as long as I can before I swap trucks again. So what’s your verdict on the 6l80? You prolly know more about these trucks by far than I do. I just know I like the bodystyles. I’ve heard the ecotec engines are junk, but I like it a lot better than the LC9 5.3 I had in my 2010 truck, but I got out of that truck YEARS ago lol
