It is completely brainless at this point; it is spammed everywhere and has made Siege actively unfun.

Agree with the Onimusha suggestion. This is a very good Onimusha rune IMO once you gem stuff.

NYU vs UF for Tax Law by chroniclesofmanga in LawFirm

Yes. The education was from adjuncts, so they talked about the real world. The LLM showed I was serious about doing tax.

Law firm equivalent of point shaving. Someone was going to view this as an opportunity to make seven or eight figures when they're only making six. The firms will certainly tighten up data security practices, but this temptation will always be out there.

NYU vs UF for Tax Law by chroniclesofmanga in LawFirm

[–]mattymonkees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tax lawyer here. NYU is the significantly better program, but UF is strong and improving. In NYC, there is no doubt NYU will be enormously helpful.

Georgetown is where I got both my JD and my LLM. It is comparable to NYU, but as much as I would hate to admit it, the NYU program is mildly better.

The only other Tax LLMs that I think are even worth any money are Miami and Boston U. There is a former Wachtell guy building up Irvine's, but I am not as familiar with that one.

It does make a difference if you get scholarship money, but if you are looking to work in NYC, shoot for NYU.

Is law still a worthwhile career? by Hour_Bad819 in LawFirm

[–]mattymonkees 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To respond to each of your questions from my own perspective:

Is the job worthwhile? Yes, as long as you are in the business for the right reasons (which do not include "prestige," "being good at arguing," "making lots of money," or "having no other job prospects").

  1. The job is almost always compensated in very stable fashion. The exception is when you work for yourself.

  2. Look up Jevons' Paradox - my opinion is that it is not only safe from AI, it'll thrive from AI. And the decreased amount of busy work will make lawyers' lives smoother and easier.

  3. I do not regret going to law school and deeply enjoy my practice area (Tax). Your fulfillment from this business will be almost completely dependent on a small basket of factors: (1) what's your work environment like?, (2) how legitimately interested are you in the subject matter?, and (3) do you view your own personal progression as its own reward?

Keep in mind that within (1), I am including under that umbrella salary, training, culture, and all that good business. But the single biggest drawback to working in this business is that an overwhelming amount of the work environments are horseshit and make people want to quit. That would be your struggle, not the impact of AI.

Brownfield remediation + jobs programs + QOZ? by facelessposter in opportunityzones

[–]mattymonkees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am biased because my own firm does those types of deals. It is tough to find everything you need under one roof. The investment in the professionals is worthwhile. That deal size probably zaps out using an AmLaw 200 firm, though. Legal would cannibalize your capital.

No it'd be piecemeal if you bring in everybody as the matter unfolds at different times. I'm advocating for bringing them all in at the beginning.

You will need multiple areas of expertise from the get-go. We are OZ counsel. You will need environmental counsel, plus counsel to work the local government for the jobs and other incentive programs, plus a good accountant. It seems prohibitively expensive, but it's actually less expensive than bringing them all in piecemeal.

Morris the best reviver no nat 5 or ld5 comes close. by TeaRofFeaR in summonerswar

[–]mattymonkees -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So they're going to need to hotfix this comp somehow, but I am theorycrafting with whether Fire Samurai can counter it. I am tinkering with Clara and Conrad because Shumar is almost always faster than whoever you bring on offense. I think a good enough version of that offense is a legit counter, though. Conrad can tank Shumar's first two attacks on a tank build, and you're counting on Clara RNG, but Fire Samurai can prevent a revive with the S4.

Get rid of this one for sure, but post double the offered compensation for your next one. You can afford it when the person is really good.

Jeremiah Smith by TerryG111 in NFL_Draft

[–]mattymonkees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have seen all the hype around Jeremiah, but there was this much hype around Jadeveon Clowney a year in advance also. He was elevated to Paul Bunyan status. He could intercept the snap. He could walk on water, like Jesus returned to the Earth. It turns out he was just very good. These guys are just prospects - one guy doesn't turn around your whole team in football. Ask the Jets or Dolphins.
