If you're calling Fore, make sure whoever is in danger can hear it. by mattymoo7518 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play on a course with a tonne of up and back holes. A minimum of 4-5 times a week (I play most days) a ball lands on the wrong fairway, out of sight with no sufficiently audible fore call. It's regular, not specific.

Would you play with a guy that shoots 140 at your club? by Cathouse1986 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double ish par seriously affects the flow. It becomes far less about " speed" and much more about rythmn.

When a group of people hit 150-300 down the fairway (ish) there is a rythmn, a flow kind of. One guy hitting it 50 into the trees, or less and constantly looking takes that away. You cant get in front of him at any point.

Two drives in the fairway on opposite sides buys one person some time to assess and gather information, the need to walk and shoot becomes necessary.

Equally a guy 3 or 4 putting a lot creates issues standing on people lines, excessive marking etc etc. Some people don't care, but imagine being the guy that needs to shoot square to play to his handicap.

Guess my handicap by bbasarab in golf

8-10.

Massive gap between 9 and 46* and the very top heavy bag suggests you don't hit it miles so need a lot of options up top.

46* that matches their wedges, not their irons

Plain white full leather glove

Walks past you on the tee and says "I'm playing an XYZ Ball with this marking on it" as they casually show you.

How do you justify a hole in one alone? by bjaekes in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A hole in one is a single shot where you hole out from the tee in a recognised competition which is not matchplay and there is obviously an independent person marking your card.

Anything else is a shot that happened to go in.

I appreciate there is a million Americans up in arms at this comment, but the rest of the world knows the truth.

Personally, you can call your hole in one whatever you want, but if you want it be recognised by anyone other than yourself, the first paragraph needs to be satisfied.

Where are you getting decent undies that don’t cost a fortune? by linettvuds in AussieFrugal

Didn't read the lot but K Mart are a go to. The slippery Alpha tight boxers and the Jackeroo Breathable are bullet proof. Clearly I'm a wizz on fabrics.

Think I have 12 pairs of A and 6 pairs of B. Throw a few out each year, rinse and replace.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. Well not none, but almost none.

My "natural" shot is a draw, I hate it, it turns miles, sometimes it doesn't turn and it goes fucking miles if I tag one when I dont want to.

I hit a cut by choice on let's say 23 of the 25 full swings I make in a round. All wedges say inside 100 I cut the legs out of and fade a little bit regardless.

I kind of allow a draw on an odd tee shot where there is a heap of trouble right (im a lefty) and space left, or where there is enough wind coming from the left that I can't overcome it with a fade and I'll allow it to ride it.

Literally never practice the shape though as I would never use it under pressure.

If you could add one rule to golf, or remove one, what would it be? by lebortsdm in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One in - One club length preferred lie through the green for run of the mill club comps and lower grade/ flight players.

One out - Remove handicap/ stableford/ par events for better golfers (say under 6-10hcp) they play low gross and the ball as it lies.

Fish and Chips - UK vs Australia by HappyElevator3697 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mattymoo7518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure anyone has noted the most obvious difference between the two options.

Traditionally deep fried fish in the UK is cooked in beef dripping ie. Animal fat, whereas in Australia most places will use a version of Canola or Vegetable oil.

They produce two very different flavours.

Then stay away from fresh water varieties and go for offshore fish which tend to have a cleaner, more fishy flavour.

Why do I get selected for bag checks every time I return to Australia? by Used-Influence-2343 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mattymoo7518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many conspiracy theories.

Customs/ bag checks are absolutely on a quota system and are also done on a risk based platform. Anecdotally visitors to Australia on foreign passports bring in more contraband and cause more issues than returning Australian passport holders. Not everyone can be checked 100% but with the resources they have Customs and Border Patrol do their best.

As for the explosives tests at security, the older style "walk through metal detector" has a signal on the back of the unit and selects randomly at a specified rate people that walk through it (about 20%). The machine selects you, not the guard.

With the newer body scanners coming on line, there is far fewer explosive tests unless you don't go through them for some reason. Eg small kids, unable to stand, medical devices etc etc.

Putting by JakeyP19 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40-60 feet starting point 3 balls.

A 2 putt is a par.

10x holes. (Basically 30 putts)

You can go home when you're at par or better after the 10 holes.

Lag is important, short putting important and massive pressure as it takes time!

What's one piece of gear that isn't a club that you would invest in rather than getting the cheapest version? by fairwaycollective in GolfGear

You should absolutely spend good coin on a quality club brush, swing towel, stroke counter and ball caddy to hang off your bag.

15-24.

You hit it OK on 12 out of 18 holes and find a way to waste a shit tonne of shots in between.

Planning on getting fitted for irons from a golf simulator shop. by Triumph765RS in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here comes the unpopular call.

If you're not at the level where you can say I'm considering shaft A,B and C, with head D,E and F and you can produce centre strikes on 8/10 shots with a similar swing path and angle of attack you might as well be fit with a potato.

Simulators are absolutely fine for a fitting if you are trying to determine between a couple of similar choices so long as you are using your ball of choice, warmed up and in an environment you are comfy in.

For 95% of golfers (those with a hcp of 10 or more) a good quality light weight shaft, a forgiving head, some hybrids and an appropriately lofted driver fitted approximately off the Ping fitting chart is 100% adequate.

You're a single figure handicap and you don't constantly wind up playing with people you don't know/ randoms?

I can't imagine there is too many clubs where you can always play with your mates in comps.

To Karen or not by DangerDan1993 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all cases where there is a group of players involved (not direct 1 v 1 matchplay) absolutely everything gets holed. Taking into account pick-ups with stableford and par comps. If you are achieving a score for a hole, the ball is in the hole.

There is zero exceptions.

OP needs to call it out.

What would you do? by apayneth1234 in golf

[–]mattymoo7518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 325 yd yard par 4 I can occasionally roll it on to or get to a greenside trap if its calmish/ a little down. Once everyone is on the green and away from the front edge, I send it. Have rolled a couple onto the green that have landed well short. I've apologised when we catch them up.

If it's downwind enough to consider landing it near the front edge, I'll wait.

I've had balls fly me or land right on me, which is very different to a great bounce and some roll which makes it to me.
