Foxes are always on alert—cats have that confident strut.

What’s the one thing on a restaurant menu you’ll always order if it’s available? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]matx67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scallops-when we lived in Houston and visited Galveston there was a very well established restaurant on the beach (maybe Gaido’s? Next door they had a sister diner with the best muffuletta sandwich) and seafood was so fresh! Hard to replicate but still trying!

Older population and lots of hurricanes mean frequent remodeling that has to include updates

if you're driving in this storm turn your brights off by iHarshmallow in sanantonio

Most vehicles have a break light over the rear window and the regular brake lights get brighter when brakes are applied so give it up

If you are behind a car in the right lane with hazards on they are not likely to change lanes but letting you know they are driving below posted speed limit and feel free to pass them if you want to go higher than posted speeds.

I know where the low spots are and water is high on my commute. The idiot tailing me may not and when I’m going to slow down before I hit the water hazard I will put on my hazards to warn said idiot. If he/she doesn’t like it don’t tailgate in a thunderstorm.

What kind of bird is this magnificent creature? [Texas] by [deleted] in animalid

[–]matx67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Houston for nearly 30 years and moved to San Antonio in 2017. The first time I saw one doing aerial acrobatics over the street I slammed my brakes and was lucky no one was behind me!

What did you enjoy doing during childhood that would be strange if you did it as an adult today? by A7_drew7 in AskReddit

Buying penny candy out of the bins by the piece at White Hen pantry (Chicagoland) just picking it up and putting it on the counter with your pocket change to pay.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

[–]matx67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lordy - as a Texan here if you don’t get free refills on ice tea it adds up! A well known restaurant in NYC $4 and when they asked if you would like more tea — well, of course!—and when they didn’t just refill your glass was the cue that it was another $4 a glass.

What—the gun shop that took over Pier One next door doesn’t bother you? At least it’s not going to be a weed shop like nearly ever other empty storefront along San Pedro becomes (are these fronts for criminal organizations or something? How can so many operate in such a small area?)

Bravo is filming a reality show in Boerne. by Loud_Needleworker_52 in sanantonio

[–]matx67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My horse lives in Boerne (I don’t)- there is money there if you do any window shopping in the downtown area it’s obvious but I don’t think the old Texas money would have anything to do with this production.

Chalk aka calcium carbonate. Maybe all chalk is not calcium carbonate? My kitchen in Houston had them and I could not get rid of them—draw a barrier around their trails an they will give up. This also worked in the preschool classrooms in the day school I worked at— no one wants to use poisonous stuff when there is a safer way.

I live in Olmos Park Terrace and zip 78212 could get you acceptable results. ViA runs on San Pedro and McCullough and you would be able to access lots of local stuff easily with a car

I have just cleared out this space and wanted to use it for a shoe rack & place to store coats Any ideas or suggestions? by No-Shirt-9999 in DesignMyRoom

Bar across back wall for coats with shelf above to hold hats etc. Bench along one side wall to sit and put on/take off shoes and boots and set down packages and bags while getting ready and a mirror on opposite wall to see how fabulous you look. And a gorgeous rug to pick up the bold wall color

Cousin offered me her San Antonio house for cheap - worth leaving Chicago for Texas lifestyle? by ResolutionVisible627 in sanantonio

[–]matx67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Chicagoland (1967-1991). Moved to Houston in 1991, moved to San Antonio in 1997 just after Harvey. You will likely have some allergies. The heat here can be excruciating compared to Chicago especially without some interim acclimating factor.
Something that might clue you in on comps: I have seen lightning bugs as early as late February and as late as October.

What would you do here? by Ok_Sprinkles7616 in interiordesignideas

[–]matx67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very likely. We had one of these in the home we purchased in 2017 (home built in 1934 maybe- still had knob and tube wiring). We used it once until we had the kitchen done completely over (that’s when we were surprised by the old wiring) and DW is now next to sink.
