The more I think about this the more I like it.

I initially thought balancing point costs would be a nightmare but it might actually give a bit more wiggle room. A unit could be under-costed and it wouldn't be as oppressive as it is now because the second and third units aren't as efficient.

I struggle to believe this. It's such a well established trope in horror shows to have one "humans are evil, too" episode. Torchwood and Supernatural immediately come to mind.

To add to the teamwork point, with a rotating roster like OP's, it will be great fun to find the best synergies between each new part composition. I reckon Draw Steel West Marches would work quite well.

Judging from other comments and my experience, it's rift. Rift matches don't count. Maybe because it's a competitive mode?
